I doubt he was at fault for hitting the birds, well technically he was but I'd imagine it's hard to dodge small birds in a jetliner which is basically a massive flying vacuum cleaner

A pilot over here had to ditch his Jumbo at Heathrow when the landing gear failed, he was also a hero. Everyone appluaded him from BA. Eventually they laid him off and now he cant get a job and no one will touch him. Wasnt his fault but BA shat on him.
