I've been recommended and use Avira. You don't even notice it there but it has one of the highest detection rates. There's a couple av testing pages I read which came to similar conclusions.

install firefox with the no-script add-on and be careful what you download.  no AV necessary.

I'm also talking about the free version, if you were really keen on buying one I have no experience with it.

About the only cons I can see with it are it has one window pop up when you update (which like most is daily) and the umbrella in the sys tray isn't as good looking as other av programs.

just make sure your windows defender is up to date, and scan every now and again.  i've been virus-free for over 3 yrs with this setup.

McAfee Stinger.
Free.
Manual scan.
About as light weight as it gets.
They don't update it as often as I would like though.

Enter.

Enter enter.

something that doesnt affect operating speeds and load/boot times too harshly. something that doesnt treat me like a total fucking idiot, something i can turn off when i want and not have it crying every few minutes. that sorta thing.

This is the site I read before choosing Avira.

Being independant and quite in depth, it seems to tick all the right boxes, hence my recommendation. I'm no expert at all, but these guys seem to be and they rate it highly.

Some of the best AV I've used tbh.  It's really what Norton should be.
