lol.

Alonso started last and finished 6th (counting the illegal overtake by Schumie). That's one hell of a fucking drive.

We'll see if it's illegal or not, but the race officially finished with an SC, therefore it is. No matter if the SC car pulled in or not.
He made at least 12 of those from well timed but ultimately lucky pit stop due to the first safety car. Once he fell in behind Hamilton he couldn't even keep up with his pace let alone Webbers.

Unless they've changed the rules recently, I'm pretty sure you're not allowed to pass before the finish line after a safety car is removed from the race. This would apply to all laps btw, not just the finish.
But they have changed the rules, you are now allowed to pass once you have passed the 'safety car line', which is different point on all tracks but was clearly before where Schumacher passed Alonso.

I see that, however, I dug through the FIA regulations and found this:

§40.13: "If the race ends whilst the safety car is deployed it will enter the pit lane at the end of the last lap and the cars will take the chequered flag as normal without overtaking."

Interesting to see that Lewis noticed Michael's pass on Fernando. Suggests that there should be no overtaking at all..

Interesting, but I also believe the safety car was coming in that lap anyway, so the race finished under greens.

Yeah, the overtake was incredible opportunistic but I don't think we're going to see Schumi finishing in 6th. Although, according to Ross Brawn, the safety car was now not deployed anymore so proper racing resumes. We'll see the results of the hearing (with Damon Hill being a steward, could we see some biased views?)

There were green flags, the race didn't finish under the safety car as the green flags came out. Seems like it was an ok move. Ross Brawn on the BBC made a very good case with his pictures.

If they were going to end the race under the safety car, it would have just crossed the chequered flag and yellows would still be flying. Instead it boxed and they were shown greens. Everyone was gunning it at the end. Only a few were informed, perhaps wrongly, that it wasn't the case.

I don't think they were intending for the race to end under the safety car, maybe they would have done the same if they did, but they wouldn't have shown the green flags then. Brawn was also talking about what the FIA were saying which was indicating that the race was back on. I dunno, I'm 90% towards Mercedes/Schumacher in this.

if what you say about green flags is true, I agree - Schumi'll probably keep his place.

If anyone saw Ross Brawn speaking to the BBC after the race during the programme, it was pretty comprehensive stuff.

Race didn't officially finish under a safety car, therefore you're wrong.

Also Zimmer's just butt hurt 'cause is country-man for bummed at the last corner

Yeah, video quality for that stream is abit poor but on TV you could see the greens in the pictures clearly

He's still 3rd in the general rankings, so I don't really care.

Well I recorded the race cause my brother wanted to watch it but was at work. Just re watched the end, and the race clearly finishes under green flags.

I think Rubens will get a fine or something for throwing his steering pad out of the car like that, it went into the racing line and I think Chandhok in the HRT drove over it. You can't go around throwing things like that onto the racing line and expect to get away with it. I think the rules state you must fix the wheel back onto the car once you've left it. Dangerous stuff. Also that shit is expensive, something like 20k a pop. Probably still small change for an F1 team but still

I thought McLaren's diamond-encrusted steering wheel was £20,000, not a normal one...

I dunno DC said on the post-race programme that his one from a Red Bull in 2008 was worth 20k and someone nicked it

I'd reckon a diamond encrusted one would be much more than 20k

Schumacher has been given a 20 second penalty. He's been dropped down to 12th then, bottom of the pile
