So the lead singer has no talent. Gotcha.

Sounds like that kind of music... sorry, that's all I have. Listened to "Still Time" and yeah, just sounds to me like every single other entrant in that sub-genre. Listened to the other one - "Sense of Purpose" and it sounded like it could be a continuation of the first track. I mean it's good work for a first EP - in fact it's great they got that far - but really it's nothing special and certainly doesn't stand out from the multitude of other identical kind of music. I dunno, maybe I just don't have an ear for that kind of stuff but I feel that if they're really going to have a go at it they need to find a way to stand out.

Well it definitely has potential. Sounds very generic right now.
Also, doesn't sound like KSE at all. More like AILD.

Wow, my opinion matters!

I think the problem with that kind of music and my opinion of "same-y-ness" is that all the singers sound identical - because all those singers are trying to mimick that kind of style. I mean look at Billy Corgan, Dave Grohl, Serj Tankien, even Billy Joe Armstrong - you can pick their voices out of a lineup. Compare that to a bunch of growling singers, (I don't know enough of them to list,) and really the diferences are not really there - at least to somoen who only has a passing interest in that kind of stuff like me.

But yeah, I mean your mate's band is good but I reckon if they could find a way to distinguish themselves they might actually have some success instead of just falling into the pool of similarly-sounding acts that never made it.

Yeah man I hear you, I don't just like this sort of music. It's a tuff one, that's the sort of music they want to play, but with that sort of music there's not really that much you can do I don't think, I'm not a musician so I don't really know what i'm even saying here...

I'm sorry, I hate the foo fighters. All of "those" vocals sound the same to me the same way that you think the growling/screaming etc sounds the same. I don't listen to either, though.

I think the point Ty was trying to make is that all the singers he listed, if you heard their voice, you'd know what band it was. I can't think of anyone that sounds like Dave Grohl.

Ontopic:
I think they are good musically, but need to find something to make them standout.

I understand his point, I just don't really agree (as far as dave grohl). He sounds fairly generic from my standpoint, whereas I could pick say, the singer from Refused out of a lineup.

I think it has more to do with exposure.

I think it depends on your taste in music, as I think Dave and guy from Refused are both great singers AND unique.
