Crap, my 1TB drive just died . The platters are still intact, since I suspect it died because I accidentally left some metal crap on top of it, so I should be able to recover the data if I can get a new PCB for it.

It was full of movies and tv shows, so no really important data lost incase I can't recover it.

Can't wait to get a server up and running so I can RAID5 all my data.

I remember, almost two years ago, DU wanted Crysis. After some thinking, we came to the conclusion that it would be faster for me to just mail him a hard drive with Crysis on it than for him to download it.

The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

Apparently, Seagate will not only increase the maximum storage space, but it will also enable higher transfer speeds by means of the 6Gbps SAS interface. Known as the Constellation ES, the HDD will have a capacity of no less than 3TB and will come to replace the Baracuda ES. The latter spins at 7,200RPM and has up to 2TB of storage of its own.

In addition to the 3TB model, Seagate is supposedly also planning to make advancements on the 2.5-inch segment. Currently, the Baracuda ES 2.5-inch tops at 500GB. The Constellation will supposedly have 1TB, which means it will be the world's highest capacity compact storage device. Furthermore, the report suggests that even a new, 2.5-inch Savvio (the famed 600GB unit with a rotary speed of 10,000RPM) will be upgraded to 750GB.

The Constellation ES 3TB device should show up later this year, whereas the 2.5-inch, 1TB unit is expected to debut around the middle of 2010. Unfortunately, there is no knowing when the Savvio will come out. Of course, it should be noted that WD also intends to unleash its own 3TB unit, although it is unclear whether it will also be meant for the enterprise or if it will cater to consumer needs.

I get your point... but (for me atleast) 1TB is ideal for storage...

I'm planning on getting two 500GB spinpoint F3s and run them raid1 for programs, windows and personal docs while using my 1TB F1 for storage...

EDIT: Oh and 1TB costs less than 2x500 where as these SAS drives cost fortunes

Meh, no point in Raid 1. Only increases speed in big file transfers (>100GB) and benchmarks. I've got two F3s and they run just fine without a raid.
