man i'm so sick of having problems logging into my AKO.  ugh, i need to get a haircut too.  hey gunslinger, which korean barber is the best?  lol.  i'm sure you remember how many of them there are and how they're all lined up next to each other.  i think i counted  11 of em' by the east gate.  lol.

heh now that i vented a bit, i think this is the right spot for me to do a little tribute for my old man's career in the army.  he gets out now in 1 month and 2 days.  23 years in and 7 deployments (Iraq during the Gulf War, Haiti, Venezuela, Kosovo, Albania, and again twice to Iraq in recent years) through several units.  as far as i can remember, 25th ID, 10th SF Group, 1st Cav, 3rd ID, 32nd Signal, and 16th Signal.  he's a 42 year old E7 and is getting out rated at just under 200% disability, and 100% unemployability.  he's really trying to bypass that cause' he doesn't want to be viewed as a vet leaching off the govt.  he's really really embarrased about what they rated him too.  i'm trying to convince him that just because some other's take advantage of the govt, doesn't mean he doesn't deserve what the govt is gonna pay him.  he's earned it.  he's one of your classic, hard headed GI's though.  his last deployment to iraq he shouldn't have even gone because medically he isn't deployable, but he still went and somehow convinced his pissed doctor to let him go.  he may not see it, or just pretends to not see it, but physically and mentally the army has drained him.  it's scary to hear my mom call freaked out cause' he passes out alot.  hopefully he'll learn to relax and enjoy civilian life, especially for his health.  this is kinda strange for me, i've never bragged about him before, but he's why i am the person i am today. sorry to sound cheesy, but i just want to make him proud and come to think of it, that's probably why (as well as growing up with it) i love the army.

*salutes*
Stay away from the east gate ones man, they do the worst jobs I think.  The one off rancier across from the autozone and i think burger king is the one i always went to.  Anything change at hood since last august?
Your dad reminds me of a plt sgt I used to have.  He joined the army in 73 got out in 78 got in the NG in 80 got out in 86 went to active duty 88 till 92 then went to guard again from 96 till 2003 then active from 03 till now.  46 year old line infantry NCO who was always busting his shoulder or hip but he could have out ran me anyday and was one of the best soldiers Ive ever met.

I never got to serve.  I shattered an ankle that garnered me two screws.  So there went my shot at the Air Force Academy.   Had everything else lined up but with the screws there were x-rays to prove it.

The above old guys who have served forever sound like my old man.

1969 to 1971 25th ID 1st Wolfhounds, Iron Triangle Vietnam, various missions in Cambodia.
Still carries shrapnel and a scar from where he was shot with an AK through the calf. Left as an E-5

Discharged 1974.  Started back in the NEANG (Nebraska Army National Guard) in 1990 as a weekender
1.168th Field Artillery, changed to 1057th Lt. Md. Truck Co.  Got a full time job as the unit clerk and resident hardass in 1992.  Ranked from E-5 to E-7 with the available slots in the guard.  Decided in Dec 2004 to go to Afghanistan at 56.  Came back in March was 57 by this time.  Planned on staying until his retirement at 60 but they wouldn't put his papers through.  Has an AO Classification on his VA Card along with all the rest of the common old man problems.  Still managed to outrun the fast groups at the train up for deployment.  (Then again he's been cheating by running 4 to 6 miles a day). Was upset at being paymaster in Afghanistan for the ANA as a part of the embedded training team.  So he tried to get attached to the Royal Gurka Rifle Squad. Gurkas beat him to the request. They asked his Coloniel, Coloniel shit himself, said no.  Dad got to be a platoon leader.  The one job in creation he can do well.  Phone calls were humorous.  Oh, I'll call in a few days we have to go get a bomb maker....very non-challant.  Most of the time they were driving in FORD EXPLORERS and not nice armored Hummers.  They passed an IED by about 50 yards and it went off, fishtailed the Explorer and he set it straight again and kept on going.  Guys in the back freaked out, WHAT WAS THAT?!?!! JESUS ON A POGO STICK!!!!!  Dad very calmly informed them, it was an IED.  You aren't dead, shut the FUCK UP and let me drive back to Shir Zai, I can't hear the radio with you screaming.

He's different.  He's back now and would rather be back in Afghanistan where his ability and expierence were useful instead of the dead end guard gig where all of his higher ups gang rape the privledge of rank.  College Lt's and old guys who have been guard for all their lives.

Ex-Squid Gunners Mate from 88-91. I'm about this --> <-- close to going into the Army. I have two resumes out right now and if I don't get called on them in a couple of weeks and get a new job it's off to the recruiter to see if they'll let me be a 13F.

I changed my AKO password about a week ago for the mandatory 3 month password change thing--and now I can't remember what I changed it to... How I love AKO

Didn't have time to add my salute to a buddy of mine who was an old paintball friend and would have been right here with us playing BF2.

Relative of mine was in Iraq. He's part of the Arkansas national guard as Military Police and has been in it since he was 18. *salutes*
