What about a living wage?  Most Americans are used to a certain lifestyle, whether it be created by TV, friends, or society around them as a whole.  A lot of jobs that immigrants (legal and illegal) get are below a living wage.  You are telling me you can live on $7 an hour?  I live in SoCal where my rent is around $2500 a month for a 3 bedroom townhouse.  I sure as hell can't afford it working 40hrs/week at $7/hr.  A lot of these immigrants are used to living on much less than that, and are not going to complain when they get a job that pays shit.  Most are happy they found work, because where they come from, unemployment is ridiculously high.  I think there are numerous problems with our economy, and saying that they take jobs that other Americans won't do is correct to a certain extent.  Americans in general are lazy, and combined with our percieved entitlements that we think we have, we don't want to take jobs that pay less.  Also, corporations would not be able to exploit American workers the way they can exploit immigrants.  So you have immigrants that want any job, as long as they work; You have Americans, who want a certain lifestyle, so they can't take low paying jobs; And you have corporations, who rely on immigrants to increase their profits.
I don't think US workers are lazy.  In fact, we have some of the highest productivity.

All that BLOG shows is that American work productivity has increased.  Nowhere does it compare American productivity to any other nation.  Also, it gives some reasoning why productivity may have been increased.

Man I love the ignorance of some people, this country was build of the backs of immigrants, any one that’s says the opposite is an idiot. This country was founded by immigrants. From the beginning of this great country we have used immigrants to make this country the way we now know now it. Hell we even “traded” African Americans, and put them to “work” in the fields.  That my friends is how American became a global power, Cotton and tobacco became Americas crop and its money, all because we did not have to pay for the labor force. The Chinese build the west by working on the Rail road tracks, when that was completed we got all pist and wanted them deported, prosecuted because they were “taking American” jobs no one wanted to work with TNT and die for measly pay. Who do we have left? The “huns”, the irish, “japs” the “spicks”, my point is that we have used immigrants for our advantage trough out Americans racist and shameful past,  we need them, exploit them, and we kick them out due to our hatred. We live in a CAPITALIST society, the American government wont do shit to deport immigrants because they rely on them, CHEAP LABOR = PROFIT, my 2 cents

Ok for people that say that if the wages were good then they would take the jobs of Americans, hell then why not go get a bunch of your buddies, go to your local field, restaurant, home depot whatever and demand a job, get a union and demand higher wages, if they give the job to an illegal call the government, sue them whatever.
Now if you do get a job and have a decent wages for your new job, guess what happens the price for our fruits will triple in price, strawberry pies will skyrocket, a nice hotel room will have to cost a lot more, due to the higher cost of wages, we bitch and complain when we pay so much for gas, imagine if we pay triple the price of the items we are used to pay because of the cheap work force.  This is not just an issue of Mexicans or immigrants; it’s an American problem, don’t blame the immigrants for companies that make profit of them, the way the this administration deals with immigrants or because of our ignorance of people with this issue, its called SCAPEGOATING, for those more simple minded-

Scapegoat, (skāp'gōt') Noun- One that is made to bear the blame of others.

I work in a hog slaughering plant.  There aren't a lot of Americans working there.  And we pay a really good wage too.

But then again, we don't have any illegals working for us.

Yeah zapata, that's what would happen. See the problem with this whole system is that we pay the Aliens less money which doesn't go back into our econimy. The majority of the money being paid out to them is going back into mexico's econimy in a matter of 2-3 months to years.

Not only that we have issues with the health care and taxation of this money. But it this way if you live in a high illegal immagrent area and your kid goes to school, lets say blow it up to where it will be a problem,  lets say your kid is the only legal citzen out of 20 in his class. This puts you in the place where your the only person paying for 20 kids.

yes its true cpt fass  im not saying that immigration is not a problem, ITS a problem,  the problem is the way our goverment deals with immigrants, they turn a blind eye to the problem, they know that the econmy prospers from immigrants, you can build the highest wall put an electric fence on the border do whatever, if there is jobs they will come (ah ah movie joke) if theres a will there a way, we need to stop, the companies that make profit of the immigrants, beef up the border pratrol, have fees for companies that hire illegals. and have deportations, making illegal immagrants an Felony is a joke, do they really care? there here illegaly if we deport they will come back. the goverment need a stonger stance in immigration, better immigration reform for people that have been here for years and made their life here in the US. like i said in my other post, the American government wont do shit to deport immigrants because they rely on them, CHEAP LABOR = PROFIT, get better electted officials with balls

So which is it a PROBLEM? Or a simple FACT of life? Or both?

Only Native Americans are true Americans and not immigrants (but genocide took care of that little problem; almost completely) - everyone else: an immigrant (like you said).

If there is a depressed area somewhere in the world and a more prosperous area somewhere else - is it not  logical to assume there will always be a migration (by people) towards the more prosperous areas?

And doesn't this America[n Empire] have a different goal - than say the Roman Empire. We are simply looking to make everywhere/everyone in the world more prosperous (like us) - because it is in our National Interests to do so (this is why we helped re-build [and defend at our expense/and continuing expense] Japan and Germany). Ideology often amounts to BS; so just do something simple instead, give a man a prosperous-life  and see how that truly effects our National Security - suddenly the reasons to do harm against your neighbors began to dissappear.

And I don't respect the numbers presented in this thread as anything meaningful. 8-10%, 15 billion, blah, blah, blah. . . Our national budget is trillions - we waste in such excessive ways - it's hard to say what is being wasted/used-up in a so-called WORST WAY (or manner)?

+

Anyone can claim American's Wages (even the government; in so called reputable government reports) are being driven down by Illegal Immigration, but this is the same government that has/is selling out it's techno-industrial base (which is far more significant).

Since Nixon, everything Americans did (and did well) has been undercut by poor decision making, and the downright selling-out (of American intrests; and its Industrial Base):

Imports (we are saturated - common knowledge)

Steel Industry (A shadow of what it was)

Wood Mills (we actully send American wood overseas to mill it someplace else!)

The car Industry (been to Detroit; or Flint; maybe Mr. Moores unreasonable chip on his shoulder - has a reason?)

US Trade Commission(s) (what a Joke, as if Mr. American Inventor/Inventiveness has a chance against Japan-Co. who by the way has an American FACE [a sellout] who just happened to work for the Trade Commission, before he/she got their Multi-National Japan-Co. Job).

Etc.

.
.
.
There is no doubt America TODAY is not the America of YESTERDAY, but Immigration is a FACT, it will continue, it might even be in our best interests and is certainly part of our National Identity. Some rules need to changed but certain problems are region specific; a temporary hard-stance in say Southern Calif. may be necessary - in regards to those trying to cross our borders - but that same HARD-line stance seems ridiculous and innappropiate to those who are already here (irregardless of any fact of LAW). A punitive stance against human-beings castes the America (I love) in a light I would rather it not see it caste in. Punitive action against immigrants seems historically disjointed and also seems more like missapplied & unjustified rage.

I agree with your first subtle inwardly-known-to-you conclusion: scapegoat.

Of course we are focusing on these Immigrants NOW after 30 years of National Decline, somegroup must be a focal point (inappropriate diversion) for our RAGE against the failings of the techno-industrial-corporate-war machince; that and other current corporate culture. Computers/Productivity due to Computerization may offset the loss of our Industrial base; but it isn't keeping up by a longshot; nor offsetting the massive income earnings lost by American Workers - but you can't place blaim on this group - as opposed to where the real problem lies (our government + corporate structure culture; and their effect on our Trade/Industrial complexes).

Sorry - but that's only one aspect of the undocumented immigrant situation here in America.

And that is NOT true for the many undocumented people that I personally know - that do not send money back to their home-country;or into their home countries economy - nor do they desire to return.

Border hoping (or sending money home) - say in California is only one aspect of the undocumented immigrant situation - it hardly comprises a whole of the situation; as many more are here and here to stay.

So with respect to the money aspect - do you:
A.) Strengthen the Border & Deport (even those undocumented individuals that have been here long-term).
B.) Grant amnesty & begin to collect taxes from this group.

Or

C.) Something humane & intelligent inbetween A and B?

Actually I'd say B. F the border. But here is what I'm asking I keep reading everywhere that they do jobs that Citizens won't, I want to konw what these jobs are? I know it's easier for them to get a lot of jobs because less paperwork they get paid the same Wage if not more off the books because the company doesn't have to pay taxes, if you make 9 dollars an hour on the books I belive it cost the company 11-12 in taxes.

Topal are you of mexican or immagration status?

Edited to say that other post was half a thought I got called away from my desk and figured F it I'll post this.

All I have to say is that my father is a painter and he has to work his ass off to make money and because all these "illegals" come in and do a shitty job for cheaper, he has to work even harder just because they bring down the prices and quality of the business. So IMO I don't think that they do the jobs we don't want to do, it's just that they do them for cheaper and longer. Also that's really the only jobs the CAN do as people that are in this country illegally and as people that don't have an education and that don't speak the national language.

I think the number is 30 million illegals now out of that number I would have to say 20 million might want to become legal. That's still 10 million making money and going back.
