no, there is not a damn thing unhealthy about red meat.  thats what humans eat.  always have.
That's not true at all.

The amount of meat in peoples diets, particularly in the west is completely disproportionate to what people have historically eaten and to what our bodies are evolved to cope with. Modern levels of red meat intake are responsible for high levels of bowel cancer.
Oh, you're a doctor now? Perhaps a dietician? Have you done the socio-paleontology research to back up your claims? How do you know that what you've been told is true without having done the testing yourself? See how this can be turned around on you? Be less of a douche and people might actually, I dunno, like you.

To a lesser extent, clearly, but it most certainly is addictive. There have been numerous studies conducted into this.
Oh yeah? Could it be due to the fact that humans require food to survive? Could that be the major contributing factor? Do some people equate a trip to McDonald's with sustaining their life force? Hmm...

Here's the deal Berster. You're free to live your life as you wish. Your rewards for eating healthy are lower medical bills (or in your case, less time in the hospital since you don't pay a dime) and a longer life. Congratulations. Now, you can try to educate people all you want on the subject but you have to accept the fact that they aren't always going to listen or agree with you. You can't live their life for them and you certainly shouldn't have the ability to make their decisions for them. Live your own life and be happy in your smugness.
Or could it be to do with addictive additives, like MSG?

There are numerous chemicals added to fast food. Many of these are addictive, MSG being the best known.
Salt is addictive? Another necessary element for human survival? Woe is me. Are you going to go after High Fructose Corn Syrup next?

No, but I can read reports written by them.

They know a damn sight more about it than you do and I do read these reports. I'm quite interested in this sort of stuff, mainly because I'm very interested in food.

Doesn't make it good for me.

Of course being a vegan or a vegetarian is bad too. It's all about moderation. All good things in moderation.

I guess that goes hand in hand with your addiction to marijuana. How's that working out for you by the way?

Very well. Fits in nicely with my motto of all good things in moderation.

I wouldn't call it an addiction either, it's just something I like - comparitively I drink more alcohol than I smoke weed, but I'm not an alcoholic, why should that be different when applied to weed? Because it's illegal? If so, I fail to see the relevance of legality on addiction. Because it's addictive? Alcohol is far more addictive.

It's never a problem when I need to go abroad on business or on holiday. I don't go out trying to find back alleys with dodgy people selling weed when I go abroad. Not having it is not an issue, so surely it isn't an addiction.

You're talking about a necessary item required to sustain life (food, red meat is food) and calling it addictive? Is water addictive too? What about salt? Sunlight? How about exercise, is that addictive too? I know I'm addicted to breathing. I should kick that nasty habit

Should be common knowledge if you at all are somewhat interested in what you stuff in your mouth ... and if it's good for you ... doesn't have to be a doctor to comprehend that ...

Red meat was not what I drew the comparison to. It was low grade fast food.

People don't need crappy fast food to be healthy.

Because it's food. People equate fast food with food. It's what they've been taught so yes, they are going to go and eat it. Since we require food as humans, and some humans equate McDonald's with food, it stands to reason that since all humans are addicted to food, some will be addicted to the food they know, McDonald's.

Which is yet another reason it is so bad.

Food is there for nourishment. If people are having their appetites satisfied with stuff that has little to no nutritional benefit, that is a bad thing. Particularly if it is laced with additives to make it addictive.

The reason it is the food they know, is because of targeted marketing.

No, how about it's the food they know because the restaurant is in their town. The Chinese food place three blocks from me doesn't have massive ad campaigns, it's just a hole in the wall but I know that it's food so I go there for lunch every so often. Same for the Taco King two doors down but I don't eat there because Mexican food made by Chinese just doesn't work for me.

Point is, advertising is not necessary to sell a product. Word of mouth alone is sufficient for 90% of the businesses that exist. I don't need a television ad to tell me what food is, my parents did that for me when I was a child.

Edit - For hillarities sake, I'll edit and mention that my gf requested a cheeseburger Happy meal with a diet coke

Maybe you don't - but advertising clearly does work. That's why there is so much investment in it by the more successful companies.

It's not all about TV ads either...

What you are referring to is known as immersion marketing. Surround people with your brand and your products, give them ample opportunity to buy your products and, by and large, they will.

I'm actually off to get a burger in a few minutes too...

But not from McDonalds. From GBK, which is substantially less crappy.
