Yeah, those are really sociable dogs...
Great with children, especially babies. I leave my 7 pitbulls and 6-month old at home together alone for the weekend all the time.
*sigh

Staffordshire bull terriers are excellent pets.  It is all in how you raise them.  For example take Redman's old dog.  Well actually he died (at 16).

*if you've ever seen that show, Big Daddy has tagged along to some of homes of the most fucked up dogs out there, and introduced to them -he does nothing.

Unless the pit has been bred into retardation there's nothing wrong with it.  Most bad dogs are the result of bad owners.

Thing is I took him out for a walk. This guy was holding his two dogs on leads outside his house. The dude wanted me to bring the dog over to try and socialise. They were kind of going mental at my dog. This obviously distressed my dog. I manage to get him to sit. Then the other two just went mental.  I ended up just walking off with the dog.
Just a quick note on walking with a leash. Don't pull on the leash if he/she is trying to get away. You need to snap it to get their attention off of whatever. Pulling actually encourages more resistance.

Don't worry, you won't hurt them.

How'd you guys potty train your dogs? A lot of times I hear it's an annoying long and difficult time. But with ours, we kept him outside all the time for the first few years we had him (and he was a puppy), but then slowly started letting him come inside (first just one room, eventually the rest of the house). Nowadays he'll just scratch the back door when he needs to go out (no doggy door)

Kmar, your dog is awesome. I like how in every picture of it, the sunlight seems to get sucked out of the surrounding area and radiate from your dog Your dog is awsmdog.

Nothing wrong with a well handled pit-bull.

All dogs have personalities man, do you know what he's like around other dogs without you there? Could be a jealousy thing.

Consistency is the key. My dog usually needs to go outside 30 minutes after eating. If she ever has an accident 99% of the time it's my fault. I didn't follow the plan etc. She will remind me by going to the door to .

You've also got to be patient. Once they go a few times outside and they are rewarded they'll pick up on it.

My Dad has a dog that knocks on doors when it wants to get in/go out.

You have no idea how shitty an idea it was training it to do that. Keeps knocking until it's let through.

Sorry guys I've been so busy with this bugger I'll stick more pics in a minute. I'm getting a bit worried before there were a few people in the room with him and me he was sort of drifting off to bed then started barking and making aggressive noises. He seems to growl at whoever comes in even though it's my brother and mother. He seen some kids about 25 metres down the road and became pretty much uncontrollable trying to pull me towards them. He did pretty much bark and growl. I keep getting mixed advice someone told me not to pull him towards me when he wants to go towards someone because he would see that as I'm scared and need him closer. I managed to snap him out of it a few times by just stamping my feet. He also got startled at my brother returning from the kitchen. I'm starting to think he old owner abused him.

Just a little backstory my brother in law was walking his boxer, this dog started following home he told me the week before "Next dog that follows me home I'm taking him"

So he ends up taking him home dog is great with the children not so great with the other three dogs a 10 year old doberman and two 8 month year old pups one akita and another boxer. This new dog seems to get jealous if anyone strokes the boxer before him.

He is smart and responds well to most training, I'm starting to think though considering I'm inexperienced I don't think I can offer the best life for him. Especially due to his breed the fact that his jaws lock could eventually end up him being put down solely due to me. He was going to the dog home before I'd adopted him but now I realise it's probably beyond me to properly care for him and erase the horrible memories from his past owner.

Take him to "Puppy school".  They'll show you how to teach him properly and he'll get used to other dogs being around him.

Having a dog is a fucking huge responsibility (seconded only to children) so if you can't look after him don't.  That said, if you take him to the dog home, he'll probably end up being put to sleep anyway.

Dogs young an nervous. New surroundings. Will settle down. Introduce the dog to all visitors and get them to go down on knee to the dogs level. Dog is finding its position in the pack so if it even looks wrong at kids, hit it a whack. Sounds cruel, but get the law down straight away then you never have to do it again.

My dogs are never on a lead and never locked up. They are free to do what they will. As pups they chased sheep attacked people and shit. I got a horse whip to them a few times. But I see that cruelty as a small thing as it enstowed disciplines I only had to give them a dirty look after that and they would tow the line. Hardly have to lay a hand on them now and it means I trust them to roam the surrounding countryside on their own even at lambing season.

It's not so much the breed as the people. Too many idiots get them for 'home defense' or to 'improve their self-image' without a fucking clue. Of course, the dog gets no, very little or the wrong kind training, the owners' attitudes are amplified, and the image seals itself not only in the media, but in reality. If a neighbor moves in with a pit-bull, my first inclination is that he's going to be some sort of wannabe gangsta douche. So far, I've been 100% correct in my bias.

Not that it's the breed's fault, but there's plenty of other fine dogs out there being passed over for the sake of fad.
