Your just picking up on this?  Don't listen to the "Oldies" much do yea.

Kayne West asked him to do a choirs after seeing the movie "Ray".  It is a bit from Ray Charles.

FYI: Rap and hip hop samples everything and everything.  I am old enough to play the "Ok what sample is this " game with my friends.

Most music these days are just remakes in one way or another even if its only pieces of it

Yeah, sampling is surprisingly bearfaced these days.  Seems you can't have a hip-hop song make Billboard unless you steal an intro from The Temptations, a guitar riff from Elvis, a beat from Aerosmith and four chords from practically any mainstream pop made before 1990.

I don't know call me crazy but this is like iceing on the cake . Let's review . Kenye makes one catchy song and he thinks he's Jesus Christ - literally considering his pic on the cover of Rolling Stone lol . Then he takes it a bit further and says he should be in the Bible . Then after the song flunks he rants away saying how good he is , how talented he is and how hard he works and that if he dosen't win the grammies someone is going to pay hahahahah . Then I stumbled across this song by Ray Charels and was like WTF ?
I listened to the odies a bit , probly no less then anyone here but I never heard of THIS particular song .
I don't know , just brings back memories of Vanilla Ice when he made " Ice Ice Baby " ripped from Queen . Remember him on MVT like 20 years ago saying " nah yo my beat is completely different . There's is ding ,ding ,ding ,ding ,ding ,ding  and my beat goes ding ,ding ,ding ,ding ,da-da , ding ,ding - see it's different " . Friggin WEAK! lol

Kanye has a great interview in Playboy. He speaks regarding the Rolling Stone pic. He planned to have the Jesus pic on the RS cover and a satan pic on a VIBE or something but the second one didn't work out. You should read some of the backlash from that cover. Truly funny shit.
Kanye has put out 2 top selling grammy winning records in two attempts.
And Jesus Walks wasn't even fully written by him. He collaborated with another fella on it. And guess what? He even gave that guy half the royalties for the song and that guy is debuting his cd next month.

He is without a doubt a cocky guy (like every other rapper on the earth) but with his current earnings and apparent ability to make music everyone buys, I think he has the right to be cocky.

He doesn't rap about shooting people as most complain about hip hop/rap. You can't make everyone happy. Thats the truth.

Edit: The song flunked? Jesus Walks? How? Jarhead producers paid a cool million to have it in thier movie. Flunked indeed.

I think your taking that out of context. I saw it....it was meant as a joke. He has been a top money maker and opened his own recording label in the past 2 years. Along with providing tracks for numerous other artists. Better yet, guess who his favorite artist is?

Kanye West... get it right.

And if you think he made "one catchy song", you are pretty ignorant or have no taste in music. Before Kanye west I turned a blind eye to most hip-hop, and then he came along and it was a breath of fresh air. His mixing of Chicago style with modern lyrics makes for great listening.

Touch the Sky, Diamonds are Forever, We Don't Care, Jesus Walks, New Workout Plan, Space Ship, When it All Falls Down, Bonnie & Clyde, Arguments....

Just to name a few of his hit singles. Mind retracting your comment?
Nah not really . I simply don't listen to today's music much at all . So yup , I'm totally ignorant with his efforts and achievements .All I know of him is what posted firsthand .Sorry but I'm still stuck in the 80's . Probably will be for life lol . Hip-hop , club , house , dance ,trance and automobiles - it's all the same to me . Something to dance to . I hate dancing . And I don't want to dance ....." I wanna rock ! " With that siad I gotta bust out some Twisted Sister !

Humffff ..... no taste in music

I'd have to say Snoop Dogg (now, not his old stuff) is the King of ripping off old school beats.

Dude, you stupid nerd. Omfg, teh haxor woah wtf is with your filthy pig latin. Yes I know where it comes from but shut up. Every new pop culture icon is no a haxor. And yes it was from Ray Charles I got a woman. And for your information, Kanye didn't even sing it in Golddigger, Jamie Foxx did. If you know anything about life, Jamie Foxx starred in Ray, a movie about Ray Charles. Is there a connection ringing yet?

Please , by all means bust out at least a few examples of how the Rolling Stones and other groups stole from other previous performers so blatently as singers do today .
I'm not calling you out , I'm just curious is all .

Accualy the king is the beastie boys.  There album "Paul's Boutique" is the reason laws were past to pay artist for the rights to sample there music.  That whole album is heavily sampled.

Adn believe it or not it is not as bad as it was.  Rap started by taking the break downs from albums and that is how they made there music.  You know, two turn tables and a microphone.

I have no problems with sampling.  Paul's Boutique is a great album.  I like Kayne West as well.  Ans his depiction on the cover or Rolling Stones, he does not think he is Jesus.  He his making a statement about being crusified in the media for speaking his mind and standing up for what he believes.  Right or wrong.
