hi guys,

once again 1on1killa needs help!! i just uninstalled my norton internet security program because it slowed my pc down and caused a lot of softeare problems...

..right now im using AVG Free as an anti virus program. i also have Ad-Aware SE Personal to get rid of spyware and so on....however, i still need a firewall....i heared the one from microsoft sucks bigtime...

..now we come to the million dollar question: in your opinion, whats the best FREE anti virus software and firewall??

I've also had good luck with Zone Alarm. I like it because it checks outbound and well as inbound traffic. In fact, it's checking of outbound traffic is how I found out I had been infected one time.

adware is good and free.

Spybot Search & destroy is an awesome Spyware program and again free.

www.trendmicro.com has a really good online free virus scan.

My dad used Zone Alarm for a while, but ended up having problems with it. He finally broke down and bought one.
AVG is a good AV, from what I have heard.

Zone Alarm here too. I ran the free firewall version for ages and now have the full security suite which works better than any other I've tried (F-Secure, Norton, McAfee). Having said that I've never tried AVG myself but have heard good things about it.

Of course if you want the full wack without paying there are always other ways but I won't advocate any of them here.

Zone Alarm & AVG FTW!

Got rid of big, fat bloated Norton and never looked back. Using them, Firefox, Ad-Aware and Spybot S&D I have been virus and spyware free for better than a year.

If you're on highspeed (dsl or cable) you should just buy a hardware firewall. If you're sharing your internet you probably already have one. They are commonly called a "router", but they contain a simple NAT firewall. Make sure that "respond to WAN ping" is set to "disabled". These will stop 99% of hackers and attackers if that's what you're worried about. If you're worried about infecting youself with something when you're on an asian porn site and want the firewall to stop your computer from sending some 8 year old in china your info so he can come to america and pretend to be you, then you should get zone alarm.

Yeah, AVG is excellent. I have the Pro version which I think is up for renewel time soon. (not sure, reinstalling windows onto my new sata raided machine)

You really should get a router, for example I have a Draytek Vigor 2600. It has a pretty good firewall and the plus side is that you no longer take the performance hit of having a software firewall running on your machine.

thx for the help guys, ill propably get a router within the next weeks!!!!!

oh, and slo5oh, i remember a chinese kid walking around in the exact same clothes as me...wtf!!...u really freaked me out...from now on, only american porn sites!!!! LOL
