When you earn a badge, or a promotion, do you have to finish the round to keep it?
I thought you did for the promotion but did not for the badge.

GODDAMNED!!!! (pardon me) USE THE SEARCH! this question is answered about 6 billion times now! If the server doesn't crash you get to keep the badge
If you quit the server the moment you here the drumms and you see your promotion or badge or ribbon or medal, it is yours. you see it, you here it, it is yours. no matter if you quit the server, get kicked, lose connection, your computer explodes, a nuclear strike hits your house, the sun explodes, the universe implodes, as long as the server does not crash the thing is yours

Sometimes it takes a while for the update to show up in BFHQ or on BF2s.

Although, after searching a little myself, I must admit that because there are about a billion posts concerning promotions and awards, it becomes difficult to provide you with a direct answer via other posts.
So here goes nothing:
When you hear the drums you've earned it, period. But... with EA, nothing is final. So, better play until the next round and keep your fingers crossed. It "should" appear somewhere between instantaneously and in the next day. Yet again, EA can be even worse than a universal implosion, and you can start whole over again.
