I think it's more of a feeling of unity among Euros that's the reason.

I like it because there's no planes in the sky, it makes for interesting reading and my deadlines have been extended.

the only thing in the sky over here are police helicopters.  maybe its because I live next to a mountain but planes are only in the sky a few times a week, at least noticeably.   its that dense population of yours i guess

Not many planes here in Turku either daily, maybe 10 takeoffs and landings per day, but the jet clouds are always around as airline traffic from E.g. Stockholm, Helsinki and St. Petersburg fly over all the time. Now the skies are just blue, not a single white streak across the sky.

30 000 commercial flights I read somewhere that there are in Europe every day. I think it's the same that in the U.S. Then there's of course airfreight, leisure, military, etc.

i read in the paper that it could go on for 3 months... if it does the entire airline industry will go "into meltdown" and need to be funded by the government... is that true? also the world cup starts soon what if the lads can't make it down?

Well the eruptions can last that long - but the latest news is that airspace in Scotland, Northern Ireland and parts of northern England is due to reopen on Tuesday, with predictions that the rest of England will follow.

Seems more like 10 per minute at home. There are always planes in the sky above my house.

I think this whole thing is BS. Planes have been test flying and it's fine. It's not like the ash is as dense when it gets here as when it's 5 minutes out of a volcano...

I think you'd be complaining more if they hadn't done anything and loads of planes had crashed.

He said paper.

@SEREVENT that was the media hyping up (and misinterpreting) the fact that eruptions can go on for months. They can go on for months, but the chances of the winds staying the same as they are now, the type of ash staying the same, and etc are zero.

To be fair my lecturer in volcanology said that this sort of eruption in ice land could well last for another few weeks so his source may not be a bad one.
