Many of you would be surprised at what's underneath your keyboard. Here's what was under mine after not having cleaned it for 1 year!

https://static.bf2s.com/files/user/50801/Random/All%20keys%20off.jpg

That's probably what the keyboard looks like under your keys if you haven't cleaned it lately. So here's some pointers on how to quickly clean your keyboard in just 30 minutes and have it just like new!

Material needed

What you'll need to clean your keyboard are:

- Spray can (Compressed air)
- Paper towels
- Small hand towel, some sort of cloth you might use for cleaning around the house.
- A bowl with hot water in it
- Knife or other sharp skinny object

Removing the keys

The first step is to remove the keys of your keyboard. It doesn't matter what keyboard you have, the keys all come off the same way. Simply insert your knife under a key, and twist it up, popping the key out.

Note: You might want to have an example of a keyboard on your PC screen or on a piece of paper so you know which keys go where. You can take a picture of your keyboard with your cellphone, or leave a Google Image up of a keyboard on your PC screen, or if you have a second PC you have a second keyboard to compare with. Also, make separate piles; like a pile for the number pad keys, the "F" keys, the numbers 0-9 and the regular alphabet keys.

Once you've removed every key you'll probably be in shock from the sight of all the junk underneath.

The second step is to clean each key individually. This is where the wash cloth, paper towels and hot water come in handy. If you're lazy like me, you might want some slave labor, so I asked my sister to clean while I dry.

Washing each key individually.

Dry the keys with the clean paper towels.

Cleaning the main board

You've just finished the hard work. Now all you need to do is clean the board. To do so, the first thing you want to do is get the big junk out, so shake it upside down onto some paper towels or a trash can, this will get rid of the big junk under there.

Now take the spray can.

Spray the board until all the dust and crap is gone, preferably do this near a window so all the dust and little gunk goes outside. This should be the result:

Spoiler (highlight to read):
Ignore the dirty window and dead fly

If you eat at your computer there might be some nastier gunk stuck onto the board, if so I doubt you'll get it off with the compressed air. This is where the wash cloth comes in handy again. Simply rub all the gunk off, and dry it with the paper towels.

Inserting the keys

Here's where things might get tricky. You're going to want to remember where the keys go in the first place, so as mentioned in the first step, you'll want to have some picture you can refer to so you can replace each key correctly.

To insert a key, place it on the little "Box" it goes into and press into it, don't push diagonally or anything, just press straight down.

Now you have a clean keyboard!

I will be putting my Media Keyboard Elite in the dishwasher when I'm going to clean it...

If it breaks then who-hey good reason to "upgrade" to a new similar keyboard

Indeed... Just leave it to dry for a few days before plugging it in

No need to hand wash/dry all the keys. I just dumped mine in a container of soapy water, let them sit for ~20 minutes, shook the container up then set them on a towel to dry.

Also, I took a Q-tip+isopropyl alcohol and cleaned the board.

Actually yours is 30minutes of EFFORT

Where as ours is 5 minutes of effort and the rest wait for drying.. in which time I don't sit staring at the damn keyboard.. lol

I took each key off mine and cleaned it with a bit of rubbing alcohol. I also took the faceplate (I guess you'd call it) of my keyboard and ran it through the dishwasher since it was just plastic. Came out looking brand new.

Without an electric charge flowing through it, it's just another material getting wet. As long as you let it dry completely, it'll be fine.

Edit: fail wording

step 1) put keyboard in dishwasher
step 2) turn dishwasher on
step 3) remove and let dry for a couple of days
step 4) use keyboard

p.s. you have your tab key upside-down dumbass
