For a larf I think EA should put in "noob" and all variations (n00b, newb, nub etc) in the profanity filter..

Frankly it gets a little annoying seeing crap like "omfg noob u suck" or just the eloquent "noob"

Of course usually the person saying this is usually an unrepentant stats-padder.

Remember, everyone was a "noob" once..

ea doesnt make the profanity filter, server owners/renters can set that up themselves.  i made "ea" a bad word once and ended up getting banned for accidentally saying it.

Nothing wrong with the word n00b, but it shits me no end when it is used to insult someone that has just killed you. Even when i have been killed by someone shotgunnig with an m203 i never throw the word n00b in

Noob is such a 5th grader thing to say. Kinda like the word gay. OMG, yer soooo Gay!
People who use the word noob to insult people just make themselves look like 12 year old idiots.
I'm sensing this post is going to get placed in a different part of the forum...

I find the term "n00b" has died out (along with counter-strike).
Nowadays I only use it to insult my gamer friend in real life .
Friend 1 : Hey Ric, where ya goi- *trips over a schoolback*
Rico (Me) : Your such a noob, dude..
Friend 1 : Omg, keep the fuck shut up..

*yes we say OMG, not O My God*

Here's a question, what does the word "n00b" and other variations mean to you?

Personally, i see "n00b" similar to smacktard. The only difference is that smacktard is the Battlefield exclusive n00b. I've never seen anyone called a smacktard on other games, and before Battlefield 2, I'd never seen anyone called n00b on Battlefield games.

"Newb" is just a variation of Newbie, Rookie etc. it's a new player, or private in BF2's case. It's nothing to do with the world "n00b" to me.

"Nub", made up by a 12 year old thinking he's cool for mis-typing "n00b"

I ran into the words smacktard and noob in the Spearhead world.  That was my first online combat game since the old days of mudding, which was text only.  Noob is supposed to mean you are just new to something but it has taken on a negative aspect.

Whole n00b thing is bullshit. Never called anyone a n00b, don't plan to. Sometimes I think. 'Hmm,  I presume this gentleman has only started playing this game my good chum,' but so far havn't insulted anyone for being so. No point. Sooner or later they're going to kill me.
People who use it on an everyday basis piss me off, like using n00b as an insult like idiot. e.g: When someone is two ranks higher then you, killing many people, taking control points, helping teammates, being a generally nice guy and then accidently crashes a chopper, or teamkills, they are not a n00b. They made a mistake. Difference, see?

Umm, actually..

NOOB, refers to someone who has been playing the game for a while, but just sucks ass, still doesnt know shit, etc etc.

NEWB, on the other hand, commonly refers to someone who is just new.

its ok to be a newb, everyone is one once.. but noobs are just fucking annoying.. especially when they whine incessantly about stuff, and noob toob, and tank whore.. and TK, and punish... and just...

GET ON YOUR NERVES!
