Business owner for day programs (2 locations) for the Developmentally Disabled.
You know how your friends and family always bother you with computer problems? Well, I'm who they call when you get sick of helping them. Self employed and doing this by my lonesome for 4 years now. Competing with geek squad has really screwed me lately, but luckily I've got a lot of good word of mouth. I also do side jobs running street marketing teams now and again for quick easy cash.
Right now I'm completely bored and looking for a job where I won't be the only one in the whole company. As much as I like working like mad one week and making a few grand doing easy crap, the times when business is slow drive me up the wall.

I am an entry level heavy equipment operator for a an earthwork company in indiana. We do site development and pipe work. I am an operator with the dirt crew. Dont let the job title fool you, i only run equipment when I am needed to. When I am not running equipment I am a grunt.
The union didnt accept me so I had to start somewhere, non union laborer/operator it is. My goal is to become a full time operator.
For the equipment enthusiests, I run a Cat 740 Ejector, and sometimes a smooth drum roller. Its another cat but i cant remember what model.
The most entertaining thing I have done so far was drive two of those 740's on the streets to another job in the same town. You should see the reactions on peoples faces when they see something bigger than a semi coming at them down a back county road. LOL
Rough demensions of a 740:
11.2' wide
12.2' tall
38' long
Weighs 78,507lbs empty and has a load capacity of 80,000lbs.
So yea,,, soccer moms shit theirselves in the oncoming lane.

Not to be an ass, more of a warning here. I went to film school. I have a bunch of buddies that went to film school, all of us a full on 4 year school. It's a ROUGH business. Not one of us works in film. The college I went to was an art school and about 60% of the students were in the film dept. The last person to graduate in that field from that school and actually work in the field happened a couple years before I graduated. It's a ROUGH business.beerface702 wrote:

I know I'm going to get a lot of negative karma for this but I just don't care. I work for the UK home civil service. And yeah, I remember that episode of Spooks where the lead guy said he worked for the civil service, mending computer systems very boring, etc. but sadly that's not me. I'm not a spook but it does seem appealing.
Anyway, most of the day I'm just tooling around with spreadsheets, writing fancy code to make then look good and do stuff that nobody gives a shi!t about, or writing reports about how the NHS is going down the pan and stuff. Oh joy. So then I'm really thinking about what's going on in BF2 or Civ4 or which poker game I'll go for at the weekend.
