I'm looking for some filtered/attenuating earplugs but I have no idea where to start. Has anyone bought earplugs before and have any recommendations? My budget is <$25. I'm in the US btw.

I've used these before for the same reason. They are pretty good without getting crazy expensive and you can usually find them at your local music store.

If you go to events with lots of loud music, then it's worth investing in GOOD quality hearing protection. The custom ones I got were molded to my ear canals, so they fit perfectly - I danced for about 4 hours that night, covered in sweat and all, and not once did they feel like they were going to fall out.
@ morpheus - I have tried a few different types of plugs for listening to loud music/concerts etc. The types you suggested block out too much noise for me, making the music and vocals very muffled. The type I suggested cut out some of the more harmful freqs without making the music sound like total crap... and yes, if aim is looking only for protection and doesn't mind the music sounding like muffled crap, your suggestion prevails.

Those ones muffle the sound, and feel uncomfortable after long periods of time. If you go down the musicians ear plugs (with a higher attenuation) route, they should also completely kill the dangerous frequency ranges while retaining a very good sound quality (think about it.. they are made for musicians who need to know what their stuff sounds like..)Morpheus wrote:
