I am not an expert and this is only my opinion but it works very well for me so here they are:

Weapons

   1. I use exclusively the M96A1. If you look at damage charts for all the real sniping weapons (M24. M95 and L96A1) they all have = damage. M24 and L96A1 = precision. The L96A1 has a faster reload time and the best reticule and this is important for me. The ability to shoot pilots with the M95 is useless to me. It will not tip the scale in a round compared to the missed shots due to the thick reticule.
   2. Spare you ammo. You can run out fast and often you are to far from a support and commanders will not drop crates just for you. In my case I can actually argue with them since I am often in the top 5 for points so they can see I am making a difference and will comply.
   3. Claymores, for me, are meant for protection. If you think you will be staying at the same place for a while, block access points.
         1. If you intend on capping flags find a strategic spot to leave a welcome gift for the next guy coming!
   4. You pistols is a nice friend so use it. I have many kills of choppers with it! When ever I see a smoking hello I empty a clip in it, you never know!
   5. Grenades...what grenades? Use them only in last resort like if you know your position is blown.
   6. Knife...What knife? I know I know how sweet a knife kill is but be careful. In some situation they are an enemy to you. Once a sniper had the misfortune of knifing me, yes it happens, by doing this he revealed his position to me! I actually stayed there so obviously I came back to get him. A L96A1 bullet can come from 2 or 400M so you will have him guessing your position. By the way this is through with a pistol kill as well. Also you can easily miss with a knife.
   7. You all probably know this but when you fire, if you do not release the trigger you will stay scoped. This helps you see the bullet hit...or not.

Aiming

   1. Always map a keyboard key for firing. I use Y. Pressing the mouse button can cause a slight movement and make you miss.
   2. Get a good mouse/pad, laser>than optical
   3. Bullet drop does exist. It is not a lot but it does. I tend to find that if I play often the same map I get use to it and compensating becomes automatic. The funny thing is when I change maps I have to "find" the new aiming compensation height. It will take me many shots to hit the sweet spot and then I am good for the game.
   4. Take your time. Being a sniper will not be a high score per minute kit. By shooting creasy you will reveal your position.
   5. Line up properly for the head shot but think a bit about your probability of hitting. Bullets drop in a vertical movement obviously, you have to aim for the “thickest” part of the target. In a prone and profile position the target is very thin and missing is easy. The part with the head is a bit thicker than the body/feet but not much. If you aim for the top of the head and miscalculate bullet drop you can still hit neck or part of the torso. You are better to wait a bit. Targets often move and reposition. If prone and directly facing you or away from you, you can aim for the top part, head or feet, and have a high probability of hitting something since you have all the body length available. Try and visualise a vertical line, where it is the longer over the body is where you want to aim. This might not always be the head but I feel 2 shots is as good as one to get the guy.
   6. Monitor resolution. Play as high as you can. In low res, when you move to aim you can “skip” a pixel. Have you ever been in a situation where you move right and you se the head on the left of the reticule line, than you move left to compensate and the head is right of the line? It never seems to want to be in the middle! High resolution will greatly help.
   7. Graphical settings. I have 100% draw distance, dynamic shadows off, graphical details high and the rest medium. Shadows is an obvious one, you cane see players trying to hide. Graphical details is a setting that tell you card up to what distance the draw some objects. I use to see players disappear at 350M, now I see them all the way to 470M.
   8. Hit where he will be, not where he is. Lead the target, you have to visualise what I call velocity vector. From the head of the target visualise a line pointing in the direction of movement. That line is longer if he runs fast, medium if he runs and short when he crawls. The tip of that line is where you want to aim, it takes a LOT of practice and this differentiate good snipers from expert ones. If you cant do this don’t waist you bullets.

Surviving

   1. Know your surroundings. Who cans see you, other sniper spots, usual travel paths, access paths to you spot. Than…SCAN!!!!! Never never spend more than 20 seconds scoped without scanning every danger spot! I can hide in plain sight and never get killed. In Kubra Dam, in the valley are 2 little hills with bushes. I often go there and get very good results. When I am high above where do you think I scan?
   2. Moving? Not all the time. Unless you are discovered you can stay put. I have spent rounds without moving and got plenty of kills. Other time I was relocating all the time. Be flexible. When near enemies or in an open position minimise movement to its maximum. Moving draws attention, your gilly south is quite effective so use it. Often I have seen players pass right by me.
   3. People will hate this but if possible lock you squad if you are squad leader. When someone spawns off you your cover is blown.
   4. Don’t act like a dear in front of headlights. When an enemy discovers you, even in a tank or APC, you can survive! I run like hell, break pace and randomly change direction. Find the nearest place to hide. I have survived countless times using this tactic.
   5. How to relocate. The shortest route is not always the best one. Try and stay off regular travel paths. Go from hiding place to hiding place is short bursts. Let you speed gage fill up before the next run, you do not want to be in the open out of gas. Pause and SCAN!! Am I repeating myself! Run you your pistol out. More effective than anything else. If you are pursued, find a good place to drop a claymore. You will find that it will work quite often. What I find the funniest is that if you get killed, the attacker tends to come and see the result. The claymore you dropped will even you KD ratio
   6. Learn who you anomies are. I regularly look at the top chart for best snipers.
   7. Before joining a server, look at the player list and compare with you top list of snipers. Are they on you side or against. This should raise or lower you risk factor.
   8. Books_DCDF will hate me for this one. When you know a good sniper is on you side, look him up often on the large map. Books is always squad leader so I have learned his ways. The day they are against you, prioritise those locations on you scan list.
   9. Where to hide? To many maps to list this topic but I have general comments. Before playing, stop and think about the map you are entering. Where do you never look/scan? We are all average players with habits, why not hide there? Do not stick out of roof tops of ledges. Hide behind bushes (3D rendered). Grass is counter productive. Not only it does not hide you but it prevents you from seeing properly. Grass is not rendered after 50M So the other guy only see you in plain sight! Hide in the middle of stairways not at the top. When in hills, never hide at the top. You ALWAYS need something in your background so hind in the middle of the hill instead. Never but never hide in cranes. This is number one in my scan list. Did you know you can shoot through the steel bottom of the top part of the crane? In Kubra Dams the cranes are not the highest vantage points (except one), you can be shot from above! Gulf of Oman, the Hotel is second on my scan list. Gulf of Oman, roof of hangar 3rd on my scan list. Hide below trees, between rocks.

That is it for now. More to come soon...
