The term 'soccer mom' is used to describe mostly liberal homemakers who shuttle their kids between sports, dance etc and are usually overwhelmingly pushy when it comes to directing their kids lives. There is a significant correlation between degree earned and political views. Those with liberal arts degrees, English, Sociology (and even some hard sciences) etc tend to be far more Progressive/Liberal than those with degrees in Business/Economics/Engineering. Those that earn 'useful' degrees that pay well in life tend to be more conservative in nature.

can you provide evidence for this statement?

and how does this affect pochsy's suggestion that gay people might prove to be more accepting adoptees? (Which I don't necessarily agree with btw).

This is an interesting point.  To a degree, we already subsidize the process via orphanages.  However, it's largely the regulations in place that drive up the cost of adoption.  Less regulations would make the process much cheaper.

As for the money changing hands...  well, that's just the way the system is.  It's not the most moral or ethical way of doing things, but...  it's kind of inevitable.
