Knowing Nvidia.. It's a premium...
HD 5970 sells for 600€ here, so they aren't exactly going for cheap either. We are talking about a card that is top of the line from NV afterall...
That chart Nvidia uses to compare to its competitor is of a HD5870, not a HD5970.. suggesting they will market this as a competitor to the former...
Looks much better to have big cap netween green and red line than see them on top of each other.

Not if the green line is twice as expensive

Anyway, on topic, is it looking likely that nVidia's DX11 cards are going to trump ATI's DX11 cards or should I just get a 58xx

58xx imo

But if you can, you should wait... shortly after Nvidia releases theirs, ATi should drop their prices!

They probably will perform better, but at a large premium, the question is, are you willing to pay that premium for the boost in performance? Right now 2x5770 seems like a good option to me.

Not sure how accurate Fudzilla is, but it's a guess anyway. Seem they think around €600 for the 480. But that can't be right(can it) if the 5970 is the same price but a better GPU =/

Several places have pre-order for that price and yes it does seem odd. But if you read all the press around the fermi chips you will find out that their chip yields are extremely low and run extremely hot. This makes them extremely expensive.

Im not sure if they will actually sell at this ridiculous price point but that is something the Nvidia marketing team has to pull off. Maybe make physx seem more important than it actually is and brag about non-game number crunching speeds.

They could come down in price a few days after release, I bet if the price was €800 people would buy it just for the fact it's Nvidia's new card.

Would love a 470 myself, even sli. But price has to be fair first.

Practically everyone is expecting them to sell out on launch day, they simply wont be able to meet the demand.  You are looking at late april before you get a sniff of them at reasonable prices.

I myself was waiting on them, and I might still go for a 480 sli to go with the new dell 27'' I have my eye on.  However from what we are hearing on the reported performance, dont have much faith personally.  Nor do I think AMD will really need to drop the prices of the 5800 series cards.  Although that said from the benchies we have seen so far, it appears the 400 series does pull a better minimum fps which is very important to me (more so than average to be honest).

Price could go either way, but for launch I dont expect to see any under £400 (480s).

GeForce GTX 480 : 480 SP, 700/1401/1848MHz core/shader/mem, 384-bit, 1536MB, 250W TDP, US$499

GeForce GTX 470 : 448 SP, 607/1215/1674MHz core/shader/mem, 320-bit, 1280MB, 225W TDP, US$349

They dropped Cuda Core number to 480 but compensate the loss with higher than expected clocks for  the GTX 480. And same time managed to drop TDP by healthy 50W, to only 25W higher than GTX470.

Source: Posted all over the interwebs, NDA lifts in a week and so we should know very soon wheter these are 100% correct.

So the top Nvidia is just a bit higher than the 5870 in terms of price and the 470 only ~$10 above the 5850... What are the current rumors around the performance of the Nvidia cards? Roundabout the same as the ATi cards, iirc?

Interesting. Well I guess we won't be seeing very much in the way of price cuts from ATi then. Maybe on the 5850, though. Just have to wait and see how the market fleshes itself out. I wonder if Nvidia will be able to supply demand. Doubt it...

Nope... The manurfacturers did that (e.g. ASUS, Sapphire, XFX, etc.), not ATi / Nvidia themselves...

Internal benchmarks reveal that GeForce GTX 470 is some 5-10% faster than Radeon HD 5850 and similiar for GeForce GTX 480 over the Radeon HD 5870. Interestingly, the TDP of GeForce GTX 480 is almost similar to Radeon HD 5970 which is a dual GPU card. Interestingly, our sources revealed that there are indeed plans for dual Fermi cards and the TDP of the card is probably gonna be mind blowing.
Thats alot of power needed for only a 5-10% performance increase over the 58** cards.

Tbh, even though the performance doesn't seem hugely better. I gotta praise Nvidia for going for a completely new architecture. Fermi probably has alot more potential for better performance in future cards than what ATI can do.
