I need the white background dropped and just the image to put in .......... I still can not figure how to do it

Just a rough go, I'm sure someone else could do it better.

He used magic wand, but if you weren't lazy you'd zoom all the way in and use the polygonal select tool and go around the entire image meticulously to cut out the white. It would take a few solid minutes to do it all but you'd end up with a better output and virtually no white at all.
That, or, select the image surgeons posted in photoshop, contract it by 1 or 2 pixel, invert it, delete that outside 1 pixel border, that should get rid of the white, then select, contract and invert it again, go to blur>guassian blur and do about 0.5 worth of blur to smoothen things up abit
that's the trick I normally do
I think I said it right...

I don't get this shit ........ i got CS4 but there nothing labeled magic wand and flipping through this book I got :
" If you have an image with a plain white background, you can make the background disappear with the Blend If sliders [ I don't know where the hell blend if sliders is ]
In the Layers panel, double-click the layer name Background [ the closest thing I got is Background from layer ] and rename the layer. [ I click on background from layer and i rename it and hit ok but then nothing else happens ]"

Right click on tools for various options
Magic wand + quick selection tool is the 4th one down (right below the lasso and above crop). Hold the left mouse button down over the tool to see variations of the tool.
all right I figured out the magic wand part ..... clicked on the image and the box is highlighted and so is the object ... but I don't know what to do next ??
I also figured out the :

" bottom of layers panel, click the 2nd button from the right to add a new layer. move the new layer below the orignal layer. with the original layer active, open then blending options pane of the layer style dialog box and drag the upper-right blend if slider control to the left until the background disappears. as the white background disappears, the checkerd board transparency grid becomes visble " <- ok I did all that and moved the bar and the white backgroud does drop but so does the image ... i can't figure out how to keep the image and drop the background

Sorry for absurdly large gif file but I didn't feel like uploading to Youpube (might take a second to buffer)
1) Choose the quick selection tool
2) Click and hold the left mouse button anywhere on the white area of the image
3) Drag the cursor around the white area
4) Hit the delete key
5) resize if needed
6) Save as .png
If there's still white bits around the image (Ctrl+Shift+Z to back up a few steps), before you hit the delete key again, click select>modify>contract and type make it 1 or 2 px.

You can also mask using the channels. I like the Deke way.Mekstizzle wrote:

I think I said it right...
"Lesson 8, "Everyday Channel Masking" is generating and employing a dependable, photorealistic channel based mask that you can save with an image and use over and over again. This is the kind of masking that you will use on a regular basis. Here you will learn how to select hair; lots and lots of hair".
I'll post the lesson when I get home.
