but the law, rightfully, treats the two cases differently. Just like treating this kid the same as a hardened paedo is fucking stupid. A point you totally fail to comprehend.

You really think some story dragged off the wires gives you the right to judge anyone and everyone about their character? you think you can really know what someone is like from some news story on the internet? You pride yourself on being so independent minded and yet you are as brainwashed as anyone I've ever met.

even the cops think nothing will happen to him:

"Police doubt Alex Phillips will face "grave consequences" for posting the photos of his girlfriend online, especially because "she created them," said Yehle. "

BECAUSE SHE CREATED THEM. So even for the police the girl has some culpability. But yo know better, of course.

Oh and this again:

He violated her trust and her privacy and dioes not give a shit.  Not sure how you can not see the difference.

That fuckhead did get a warning and a chance to take it down, he refused. Fuck him
So you believe it makes sense to send a minor to jail for possibly as much as 12 years for distributing a naked picture?

If I took a picture of my ex-gf naked and posted it on the internet, I could be sued, but because she's not a minor, I wouldn't go to jail.

It seems pretty ridiculous that a law aimed at busting adults for child porn is being used to bust a minor like he's a child porn distributor.  If the girl was a day over 18 years old, then he wouldn't be going to jail.  Doesn't that minor difference resulting in major differences of a penalty seem a bit insane to you?
Never said it made sense, I am saying I do not give a shit about what happens to this guy. He is a jack-off with no regret or respect. Fuck him.
As soon as a law proves itself to not make sense, that is when its enforcement must be modified so that it actually makes sense.

If you just blindly enforce the letter of the law, you will end up with a ridiculously litigious society.

Then again, I guess we've already reached that point....

Some story dragged off of the wire seems to give YOU the right judge, pass judgment etc....We just differ on our judgments. If you have the right, I most certainly do as well.

I doubt anything will happen to him either, I just don't give a fuck if anything did happen to him.

I see, so posting harmful pics without permission of another person makes sense to you and is a law that should be all knowingly broken?

Sorry ya feel that way. Can't wait until it happens to your daughter.

Without permission of the peron you are humiliating in public, it is wrong, disrespectful and a violation of that persons privacy. Something you have no right to do

and if you disagree, feel free to find the humor of pictures of your naked daughter plastered all over the net funny.

The part that doesn't make sense is the 12 year sentence.  You can get out earlier than that for 2nd degree murder with a good lawyer and good behavior.

And many Islamists agree with you.  See, I don't really understand why you distrust Muslims.  You actually have a lot in common with some of the more conservative ones -- at least when it comes to crime and punishment.

They're all about harsh punishments.  Like, in many of the more conservative Islamic countries, you get your hand cut off for stealing.  The death penalty is fairly common as well and can be applied to plenty of things other than murder -- like rape.

For a self-proclaimed libertarian, you have a serious authoritarian streak when it comes to law.

Never said Islam didn't have it right when dealing with criminals. It is how they treat the innocent that is the issue. Or did we not establish that years ago?

As a libertarian, I am not sure how my beliefs are a contradiction t ocrime and punishment. Unless you think freedom is supposed to mean you can do whatever you want.

Most libertarians have both a problem with capital punishment and with the way our sex laws are handled.

They usually are against the death penalty because of the power that gives the state, and the ones who actually educate themselves on sex laws tend to oppose things like charging minors the same as adults.

Essentially, the more authoritarian you are, the more you open the door for governmental abuses of power -- the kind of thing that most libertarians hate more than anything else.

harmful to whom? embarrassing to the girl, but since SHE WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR SENDING THEM it's kinda her fault too. Not really harmful to anyone.

If I had a daughter and it happened to her, like someone else said, I'd be more pissed at her for being such a stupid cow.

Hey Lowing
How would you feel if you threw the switch on an innocent man wrongly convicted? Would you seat yourself in the chair and throw it yourself?
How would you justify it in your mind? Just doing my job? Cost of doing business? Necessary evil? Oops?

The possibility of executing an innocent man invalidates any capital punishment law. PERIOD.

@ turquoise
Lowing's views are draconian when it comes to punishment. And I will say he also has a French attitude towards perceived criminals i.e. guilty until proven innocent. He would have been right in his element during the Crusades or the Inquisition or the witch trials. I would like to think Western society has evolved in a positive direction since then and it is well past the time for him to catch up.

Even if the criminal is guilty the guy throwing the switch is just as much a murderer.

Man I just hope that lowing gets screwed to the letter of the law one of these days. It's going to happen, it happens everyday. The punishment in the country very rarely fits the crime, and the letter of the law actually takes away from judges to decide. They need to do away with Minimal sentence requirements on all laws and let the judges carry out there jobs.
