How many hours do you guys all have set aside that simply spent IN CLASS? Not the work you do outside of class, but simply sitting in a classroom at your uni. Post how many, what university, what you're studying and in what country you're in.

~20 hours

The department has a strange dynamic to it; there are the professors in the 'in' group who work within the Toronto school of literary criticism (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toronto_Sc … ion_theory) which are normally of a very very high calibre (although some are extremely strange), and then there are the loners who specialize in something so remote that they have become bitter and hate everybody with a passion and try to cram their opinion down your throat.

It sounds like you got one from the 'in' group.

Where are you spending next year, anyways? I think the admissions are done for most schools already, no?

our engineers get raped. 9-5 days, with a 1 hour lunch is the standard. There's variation depending on the specialization and course selection of the student, but only by a max of 5 hours per week. They do a shit-tonne of homework too...

note: a shit-tonne is more than an ass-load, but slightly less than a fuck-load.

I might be mistaken, but from what Ive been told, for every hour you spend in class you should be spending 2 hours at home on homework.

Yep, pretty much   I was in the second hardest course, there was one that maxed out at 35 some weeks, but went down to 20 or something on some weeks.  9-5 was pretty standard, sometimes it was without lunch too.

They do...well most of them, anyways. Weekends and nights are spent studying and writing assignments. I have 4 friends in engineering, and I'm lucky to see any one of them more than once or twice a semester. It's no way to live.

There is nobody from U of T currently in engineering. I guarantee you won't see Stimey or Winston on here come fall, though.

I dropped it since I hated it so much.  Ridiculously difficult, no free time and 99% guys.  Not how I want to spend 4 years.  I took this year off (which is why I'm active, unlike last year) and am going back next year in a different program.

Edit: 1st year life sci.  Stimey is coming to U of T?

well, that makes sense actually.  I wouldnt commit to that kind of work load unless I was getting mad cash.  thats like twice as much as 40 hour work or more when considering homework
