You seriously can't believe medal count scales linearly with population and funding.
Maybe not exactly linearly, but do you honestly think that more people plus better funding will not produce a greater quantity of good athletes?
I was just pointing out it is nearly impossible for any nation to get ten times the medals of Canada. With that said, please consider that Olympic success is the product of more than population and funding.
We should be proud to be able to provide the means for success to athletes.

just sending two athletes........oh nvm.  you think you are being smart but...ya, nice picture.
Thats because those countries didn't have qualifying athletes. You know they have to qualify right?
For instance Norway couldn't send their womens curling team. They did not qualify. I was really looking forward to watching them.

I didnt know that the Japanese and Chinese were rich white people. How has Canada been this whole time mek?

That being said, this better be a close game, not rape by one team or another, go nail-biter!

And lol Kmarion.

I was addressing why some countries aren't getting a lot of athletes in the Olympics. The way you put it, no it didn't seem like you knew that.

to be fair winter sports is quite an expensive habit in the vast majority of countries in the world

lots of specialised equiptment, specialised venues and all that shit are required

i know what he's talking about when he says winter sports are mainly for rich people, even in places like canada, its not regularly accessible to the vast majority of the population, let alone accessible enough to become pro at it

that's why whenever I look at sports i always take into accessibility when it comes to how much i respect/think of it.

I find it kind of ironic how Vancouver, or much of the West Coast of BC isn't high-lit on that map...

Very few sports that are cheap. Especially when competing at that level. My daughter plays softball and even at her age we are spending mucho thousands a year.

true.  but you dont have to make a special trip to go play softball for the most part.  i mean, i could have been one hell of a skier.  only prob was my mom couldnt afford skis for me.  even if she could,  i wouldnt have the money to go to a hill and get lessons.

Oh I do as well, for things like bobsled and luge, sports that very few people have access to. Sking, Snowboarding and hockey are a few. I mean you can argue that not everybody has access to a lap pool when talking about swimming.

Also, after watching bobsled irl, I do have far more respect for it, its alot more than just sitting in the sled, at least for the driver.

Yeah but swimming is still much more accessible than winter sports, pools or a good beach compared to landscaped slopes and perfect ice rinks etc..

Anyway, watching the ice hockey final right now, they should make the pitch bigger, it's too small, no space to do anything and its all rather messy

still, i used to be quite good at regular hockey in school, and i know how to ice skate, so this would have been fun to play when i was younger

On topic, I really like watching Hockey, and other pro team sports in the Olympics a lot more than NHL or NBA. It seems to mean more when you are competing from your own region, I always find it weird when people are fans of their home team (Vancouver Canucks, or L.A. Lakers for example), yet nobody on that team is from that region. It's like your cheering for mercenaries.

i've learnt that goals are rare in ice hockey, similar to football (soccer)

which makes me question why it's so popular in north america, you guys don't like low scoring... anything, all your popular games have lots of points, scoring all that

it's the fighting, isn't it?

and boo canada go usa

Lol, people in my home town used to go to the local games to see the fights and get in fights in the stands. It was kinda fun.

It's an NHL-style rink (fast rink). The rinks are somewhat bigger in Europe, which leads to quite different hockey; something that Finland seemed to forget against USA (even if the team had a shitload of NHL-players).

That could actually be true. Although while watching games, all I've seen are NHL-players names on jerseys throughout the "Big 7" teams.
