I think Americans realize that unchecked power to one party is a recipe for disaster. This was the first step towards correcting that. Watch November.
It took them 6 years to figure that out under Bush, apparently.
Figured it out in 1994, as well.

Hopefully, we'll figure it out again in November. And won't repeat the mistake. Again.
Historically, that is very optimistic.

What has happened time and time again is that one party gains control of the presidency and Congress and then the president and/or the party in power in at least one House switches.

Unfortunately, you're spot on.

We're a nation of "lessons observed" vice "lessons learned". We don't seem to get that overreaction to policies of one party is not the answer. Moderation by ensuring proper checks and balances in the balance of powers is.

I'm glad you agree that I think you're right.

I'll untwist your arm now.

lol... I was referring more to the "checks and balances" idea.

It's a nice idea, even if it's usually only a temporary arrangement.

Scott Brown.......a great example of just how stupid conservatives are these days. His election was a "message to Obama." Next thing you know, he votes in support of Obama's jobs bill and in the puny minds of Tea Partiers, he's a back stabber. How can so many people that stupid actually organize rallys and remeber to take their three-cornered hats, all at the same time? ~ Phil Hendrie

I gotta kinda agree here. And look how fast conservative dogpiled on Romney for supporting McCain.

See, I don't think that's really what's going on.  I think it was a referendum on the fickleness of public opinion in America.  One minute they praise Obama, the next they hate him.  Right now, they'll praise Brown, but give him more power and a little time, and they'll be bitching about him too.

In short, maybe Phil Gramm was right after all...   Maybe we really are a nation of whiners.
Wow, I really did call it this time.

Yea but predicting nutjob teabaggers turning on anyone that so much as smiles at Obama isn't exactly prophetic.

I don't know if we are a nation of whiners.. or if the whiners are just really fucn loud.

Yeah, the latter is probably more true.

I'm glad we agree on the teabaggers.  If the GOP hopes to get a significant majority in either House in 2010, they'll need more levelheaded leadership.

Not all of them ya know... Most are just ignorant and angry. They yell about small government and less taxes but you could easily spin the argument against an average 'tea bagger' and have them defending government programs and intrusion. They're just like any mob.

Yes, there are certainly exceptions, but if you mention cutting SS/Medicare/Defense spending to the average tea bagger they'll be all over your ass about how they paid into those and deserve them. Good luck convincing them that they didn't pay enough in taxes to fund them and if they want to keep them, taxes will have to go up. They'll then go off on a tangent about pork spending and cutting waste instead.

Some are libertarians that understand and accept reality but most of them are just pissed off and ignorant GOP'ers.

Ok, maybe just most of them. Thing is I can even agree with them on some issues, but trying to have a normal levelheaded convo with them is often difficult. They let their emotions elevate their tone. The same way the BDS's people did.
