getting lag

evga 7800gt
2gb ram

i notice recently that when in a heli and some times when in cars i get a little lag however ping is usaly around 45 and fps is about 50-80. everything is set on high with 1280x1024 @ 60hz. do i need to turn down the settings or is it somthing else

No it is not your hardware issue. You might want to turn off your virus scanner and other programs that take internet bandwidth and also check with ISP for any issues in badwidth you get from your modem. Cable modems seem to be laggy more than DSL connections as that may be also a factor.

What kind of interent connection do you have? A virus scanner shouldnt be making it run that slow...

I have a cable connection, and I run Xfire and Vent while im playing...and the only lag I get is system lag...but thast cuz my video card sucks(9800Pro)...

You got a lucky internet connection. I use a X600 Pro and I get no gfx lags but pure connection lags. *sigh* Maybe is the shitty Linksys WiFi B Router that I have right now... Oh well... I assume he uses Cable because DSL of any kind should be hyper fast and even with WiFi shouldn't lag in BF2. Cable modems tends to have A LOT of problems...

right now i am at school we are limited to 10mb/s but i i have never seen it over 1meg

Does your school use a proxy server/and or big time network? Either will choke bandwith.

it is a massive network however like i said i never have a high ping (35-60).

Ok, I have uninstalled bf2, defragmented my HD, updated my video driver, updated router firmware reinstalled bf2, sf, patched to 1.12, reinstalled Euro, patched to 1.22 (tried both incremental and full), updated punk buster, and only play servers with a ping of less than 100 (normally less than 60). But I still have problems with connection problems. I don't think I have ever played a whole game that didn't lock up atleast once and often I lose the connection to sever and booted back to main menu.

System: 2.8 P4, 1.5GB RAM, nVidia 6200 256mb, 100GB HD using 55%, Motorola SB 5120 cable modem.

Benchmarks so avg 4000mb down and 700 up. In game fps avg 40 to 50.

What else can I do to solve the connection issues?

I nearly went for the 6200 back then but thank god I didn't get it after all the bad reviews I got. The Radeon X600 Pro I have right now is so much better!

Ok my video card sucks. Is that the reason for the connection problems? Also when I try to rename my BF2.exe the game loads with strange colors and I can't apply any filters when searching servers (ranked, populated, etc). Is there a step I'm missing? I'm still a noob to this so I could use some help.

Just got the renaming thing to work, and did away with the movies. Also added a .bat file. Things seem to run smoother.

256mb 6800 gt cards are <= 150$ now in either pci-e or agp. I recently sold my leadtek 6800 gt for 150 and upgraded to an evga 7800gtx 256 which cost me 450$. Then the very next week I looked and a 512 x1900xtx was 450$. Damn that made me mad. I also bought a viewsonic vx924 for christmas for 450$, and 3 weeks later frys was selling the widescreen 20" vx model for 450$. Such is the nature of computers...
