Sounds okay but if they put brutes back in I'll rage. I fucking hate brutes. Lamest bad guys ever. Elites were far better.
According to the story, I'm preeetty sure it was an Elite fleet that attacked Reach and hence ended up on the first Halo. Brutes have been in the covenant for a while when the shit hits the fan, just the most recent species to join. My bro has one of the books, the one about how it all kicked off between the humans and the covenant.
This of course means nothing to Bungie/MS, who have been retroactively changing shit in the story/games since Halo 2.
Whoa... Can't believe these forums are still kicking.
Wanna join me when the beta comes out? Little bit of Team Wisconsin gaming?CosmoKramer wrote:
why do they call it halo:reach? cause when you play it you want to try for a hammer to smash it into peices
but seriously, im pumped for the beta to come out, I like how they made the covenant more alien like and how you can't understand them

Just edited a lot of the information on the main page. It's actually a good read, lots of fun little goodies as far as the engine goes.
For those who haven't read the book titled 'Halo - the fall of Reach' (one of 6 paperback novels based on the game), the battle for Reach takes place immediately before the start of Halo 1. When Halo 1 starts the Pillar of Autumn has just emerged from slipspace near the first Halo construct. The ship has jumped from the Reach Military installation in the final stages of a losing battle against a massive Covenant armada which has just destroyed the UNSC's largest and most strategic military base. Reach is also the planet where the SPARTAN II's were trained. In the new game, Halo-Reach, the player takes the role of a SPARTAN III. Not as tough as the SPARTAN II's of the first three Halo games the SPARTAN III's are a second generation soldier developed at a lower cost than the SPARTAN II's and slated for missions with a lower survivability rating. Expect the mission to get done, just don't expect them to come back. SPARTAN III's depend on teamwork to survive far more than the tougher SPARTAN II's. The SPARTAN III's were trained on a world called ONYX. The books detail the true nature of this planet as a 'shield' world of the Forerunners, but that is another part of the story altogether. When the Pillar of Autumn jumps into slipspace from Reach the MasterCheif is forced to abandon the remaining members of his RED team on the planet, leaving him alone to face the trials of Halo 1. It will be interesting to see how the developers will allow you to 'win' the game in Halo-Reach as the battle for Reach is untimately lost (given that they remain true to the storyline).
Never read the book but I'm guessing that the story could end similar to Halo Wars with self-sacrifice and/or getting away on a ship and going into cryogenic sleep. But Halo Wars and Halo 3 have similar not-so-happy endings.. With the story of Reach I really dont know how that could change(27th)Kaptyn wrote:

I for one hope the game is darker than Halo 3, the music and the colors.... it just made everything seem so happy and upbeat, even the Flood parts...Cortana sucked ass. Only played ODST firefight so idk what the campaign was like.
I also wasn't immersed in Halo like other games. Fun but lacking something..
360 is 360. No rrod on my PS3.
Refined, polished, punishing: Ars plays Halo: Reach multi
http://arstechnica.com/gaming/news/2010 … -multi.ars
The most important question: how was it?
We played the game for about six hours, with a break for lunch and for interviews. The new multiplayer modes are already tuned very tightly, and the maps are filled with surprises and tactical opportunity. Learning how to use the Armor Abilities and to remember to look above you for jetpack attacks took time, but it also opened the game up wonderfully.
The game won't convince you to play if you don't care for the Halo style of play, but for fans of console-style multiplayer, this is one of the best experiences you'll find. The different game modes offer something for team players, for lone wolves, and the ability to tweak the game settings and set up your own games means that you can stick to the modes and style you like the best.

Why is it that when your controller shuts off, it fucking stops the download. I have to reinstall the fucking Reach beta because my controller decided to fucking turn off. Fucking gay, I was almost done DLing it too.

Got to play one game of the beta. Loading is so fucking slow because there are so many people. Anyway they introduced a class system. They all have the same gear only difference is armor abilities. There is Airborne(Jetpack), Stalker(Cloak plus it jams everyone's radar including yours for those in radius), Gaurd(some fucking overshield ability that turns you into a rock basically, tbh this is kinda pointless as you can't move or shoot, only use for it would be when your shields are down so you activate it so you won't die. It seems to explode when deactivated and it is even bigger when you have it entirely empty), and Scout(Sprinting)

Reach is meh. Headhunter can be won using "teams". DMR sucks. Sprint needs to be buffed. Grenade blast area is too big and too many resulting in many nade fests. And overall pace is slow.
You might as well buy Halo 3 & ODST as well to notice no difference at all in Reach.Macbeth wrote:

Money well spent, yo.
DMR isn't too bad, you just need to aim for the head. As for grenades they increased radius as now you can only carry 2 frags and 2 plasma grenades. Sprinting does need to be improved.Ilocano wrote:

Old weapon changes.
Plasma Pistol: Only thing I noticed is that it now has a lock on system.
Assault Rifle: The most accurate assault rifle yet, thing is kickass and shows red dot if you aim for head.
Human Pistol: 8 bulllets in mag; 2x scope; and damage, ROF, and recoil is similar to ODST pistol. It is used as a secondary weapon in most game modes
Rocket Launcher: A new look, although it's possible it can lock on to vehicles. Unknown as there aren't vehicles in the beta yet
Shotgun: The best shotgun in the series
New Weapons
Combat knife: Only appears if you are assassinating
Plasma Launcher:New covenant anti tank weapon, has a guidance system. How it fires is you have to hold the trigger and the longer you hold it the more projectiles are fire fired. The projectiles are basically guided flying plasma grenades as they will first stick to a target and detonate
Focus Rifle: Basically a scoped sentinel beam. Replaces beam rifle
Plasma Repeater: Basically a mini plasma cannon that replaces plasma rifle in multiplayer. It's ROF is faster than a plasma rifle and heats up slower(I've yet to see it overheat). If you press x it cools down faster. It has a guidance system but it isn't much.
Grenade Launcher: Human grenade launcher, the projectiles bounce over walls but if you hold down the trigger the round won't detonate until you let go or die.
DMR: Replacement for the BR, semi auto 12 rounds. Fairly decent but it works best if you aim for the head. Primary weapon in the game mode Team SWAT
Needle Rifle: Pretty similar to the DMR. Has 16 rounds.
