My mobo or CPU fried so I need some new parts. Budget is around 200-250€

Was thinking of ASUS P5Q SE2 (80€) and E8400 (155€), are these a good buy?

Is that gonna be much of an improvement from your current mobo and CPU? Why not just save up for an i5.

Yeah go ahead then. E8400 is a pretty solid dual core CPU.

Or go with this for your mobo: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6813128358

Don't think it matters much though.

Only about 9000x better / I might just save up for an i7 with that logic.

DDR2 doesn't work in a DDR3 mobo right? Would then need to buy new ram and would go over budget.

Jah, you would need new RAM.. but it'd be worth it. Technology is going -> that way. 775 sockets are going out, i3/5/7 are going to become standard. Save money now, or save it in the future..

Sure if I was just upgrading I'd save some money and get better parts, but since my current PC is broken I need to get what I can afford now.

Hmm this is true.. but "better parts" isn't why I suggested what I did, E8400 vs i3, you're not going to notice a vast improvement, I was more thinking of future proofing.

If you don't have the cash, E8400 will do you good for a while. Not sure on mobos myself.
If you can get the cash, go for i3/i5.

What are you going to play? If its anything newer like Bad Company 2 you want cheap quad core over that E8400. You can get quads for the same price.

Haven't followed the game market lately, so don't know what I'll be playing in the future. Though might try BC2.

What would you recommend then? Q8400? It's only 7€ more than the E8400

AMD PHENOM II X4 955 BLACK EDITION is on sale for 149€. What would be a good max 100€ mobo for that?

Not to derail this thread but...
How's AMD sockets future proof vs. Intel i-serie?

Last build I chose Socket 939 and only a few months after it was disapearing.
(Yeah my sytem is old!  And since last october I want to upgrade but money is running out of my pocket with the house.)

Not much of a price difference between 945 and 955 (Only 3€). Those gigabyte 790 mobos seem to all be ddr3, I need a ddr2 mobo. Would an ASUS M4N78 PRO be good?

Is there much difference between that and ASUS M4N78 PRO? I could fit a freezer7pro rev.2 in to the budget if I bought the asus one.

The gigabyte is quite a lot better. Freezer 7 Pro isn't very good for quad cores anyway so you might just go with the stock for a while and getsomething more suitable when you can afford it.

I was wondering this to.
I'd type my pc specs out all fancy again but teh mods would remove it. Again.

AM2+ is not future proof at all, AM3 is as future proof as any other highend socket atm.

I have to say, go for that mobo with an i5 750...

750 + P55 is really to best value/performance offer atm
