A while back I found a site that had the comparisons between the low, medium and high settings.

The difference between low and medium was clearly visible, but the diff between medium and high was barely different.

I run all settings on medium with 4aa and have noticed no difference in graphics than when I was playing settings all on high, except for I no longer have lag at the start of the level.

I have a 6800gs and run at 1024x786 70hz refresh and its fine for me and my characters don't look like lego men.

i see a difference when i run it on high, i think the higher resolution helps. going from high to ultra high theres barely no difference, except lag when sniping long distances.

Use to run my Radeon X600 on combination of medium and high settings with 4x AA and 1280x1024 native resolution. I saw many lag on gfx issues but I did see better and smoothed details on the models and geometry. Now I just run on the 1024 resolution and all medium with a bit high and 2x AA and the game runs smoother but I would miss the smooth geometry and neat details.

2 X 7900gtx and an fx60 cpu would do.

I believe you change the settings in one of the .ini files or maybe a .con file (I can't remember the suffix). Whichever it is, High is normally 3, you can set it to "4" for "ultra-high".

Thanks I forgot to mention that in my above post.

It's in video.con as you have said under your profile just do a search for video.con.

Some people say there is no difference between high and ultra, others say ultra has no difference but it runs at higher frame rates at some points.

Personally I set everything currently running on high to ultra in the video.con, don't see the difference at 1600x1200

I think I'm gonna drop back down to medium on textures. I have 2 gigs of RAM and a Raptor, but I hate not being the first in the server now.

I have a question though about that.

Can't you see further if you have your settings on high compared to med?

Check this out there is a difference.  I used to use a 5700 and 2000XP to run BF2 on low settings and I have seen what bf2 looks like on a 6800 ultra gt.  I now run a 7800 GTX 512 and a 4000+.  You see shadows of people on ledges when you are down on the ground, glare off the cockpit of the helo, and blast waves off the arty!

yep, and people can hide in the shadows that don't exist on systems when people run shadows on "low", snipers can hide behind a bush that doesn't exist on others computers with terrain on "low".  It's a crap shoot if you should or should not run all high.  I have, I turned it down now (couple days ago) to see if I like less "fake bushes" and no shadows.  Either way I'm either the first or one of the first when a new level loads and I've only got 1 7800gt... but I think CPU power counts too.

Of course, your 6800GS wouldn't see much difference at a 1024x768 resolution. Results vary more than that, though.

You can put everything on low. Just make sure you have view distance on max. There are some issues about models disappearing at certain ranges, but that seems to vary from card to card. I haven't looked into it much, because I have little difficulty with my 6800 Ultra.
