Well put skruples.  One thing I would like to add to this if you don't mind.  Evolution, the big bang theory, and modern science DO NOT contradict the bible.  It doesn't say exactly how he did what he did other than he willed it so.  Whose to say that what he willed isn't evolution.  Whose to say the big bang thoery isn't how he made the universe?  Whose to say that our understanding of modern science isn't our understanding of how god does things?  What does a day constiture to god?  24hours?  A year? A billion years?

I would like to ask you this?  Why did god waste his time on dinosaurs if he just wills things into existence?  I would like to remind you that there are still ancesters of those same dinosaurs still around.  Most notable is the alligator and crocidile.   Now I'm assuming you would agree that man and dinosaur did not coexist at anytime in history.  (lol i think i gave you a way out there).  Also, do you believe in life on other planets?  If so, how do they fit into gods plan?

If what you say is true, then god would of placed us on a orderly and neatly arranged planet where there are no seasons.  Where we can all wear loincloths and just waste our days away enjoying what god has offered.  I tend to think that god intended for us to be tested by nature.  To make us better and stronger.  Also, our free will and obvisous thirst for knowledge (Eve and the apple) drives us to understand what is going on around us.

This whole creationism thing is the equivalent of a child putting a cover over his/her head because he/she saw a shadow that scared them.

No one here is questioning gods power or ability here.  I believe we are all just trying to understand his plan and through understanding appreciate that which is him much more.

the idea of the world being wiped clean is far older that the bible, see mesopotamia.  the idea of a messiah being killed and resurrected as the ultimate proof of his divinity is far older than the bible, see mesopotamia.  the idea of the world being assembled like some kind of snap together computer desk, see mesopotamia.   damn near every concept found in the bible is just a rehashing of far older cultural and religious beliefs.  religion was a means of providing answers to questions that could not be answered.  once science answered those questions you would have thought religion would have fallen to the wayside.  the idea of a vessel conveying two of absolutely every species on the planet earth is rediculous. were talking of millions of varieties of insects, mammals, reptiles, amphibians, fish, birds.  it was and will always be logistically impossible to do this.  and what about plants? they couldn't all have survived being submerged in water, ooh, maybe the concept of evolution could help illuminate the answer.  oh yeah, evolution is the work of satan.  god put dinosaur bones in the ground to test humans.  the earth is 5500 years old.  all human beings originate from  two people, with the female of the set being derived from the male.  it would be funny if christianity and all religion wasn't so dangerous.   at least most pagan religions based their concepts of gods on forces of nature,  thor's thunder and lightning, neptune's sea, and Ra's sun.

if someone needs to believe that a god put this whole thing into motion, whether through the garden of eden or lighting the fuse on the big bang, i guess thats cool.  everyone needs their crutches.  personally, i embrace and respect the random order of nature(wiki fractal geometry, mandelbrot)  whether in my back yard or at the other end of the universe.  we are here because of so many millions an billions of factors all randomly coming together. its beautiful and terrible all at the same time.  when i think of how small i am in the overall scope of the universe, i am awe struck and inspired to enjoy every day i get to exist.  i guess christian are terrified by this and need to believe there is a mommy(god) always close by, ready to explain away everything that is frightening and misunderstood.

it's cheesey, but i say "carpe diem," sieze the day and embrace the elegant chaos.

Well said man. +1. The first man to openly admit that all religions are copied from others (in parts)

This is Really frustrating.
You came in at the End and didn't read any of the Earlier posts. All this was covered. Few people even religious ones believe "The Flood Covered the Earth, Every single Animal, Etc."
This in not new thought. I don't call myself a "Christian " but its obvious you have no Idea what their Religion is about, so your Smug aloofness is misplaced. As for Science. Thats where my money is but It constantly evolves. What is fact today could be antiquity tomorrow. And Watch out for that Miasma!
