I've lived 12 years in America, your argument is invalid.11 Bravo wrote:

That has to be the most dumb/ ignorant statement I've heard in a long while.stfuPiecing together information from more than 100 studies in the growing field of happiness research, a British psychologist has produced what he says is the first world map of happiness.
It ranks 178 countries, with Denmark at the top and the African nation of Burundi at the bottom. The United States comes in 23rd.
“While happiness is intangible, the scales used in these studies are very accurate,” said Adrian White, an analytic social psychologist who is working toward a doctorate at the University of Leicester. “Happiness research is far from an exact science, but it is the best way we have of looking at it.”
White analyzed the data in relation to a nation’s health, wealth and access to education. The United States came in relatively low — beneath Bhutan, Brunei and Canada, among other countries — in large part because of health factors. “You don’t have the highest life expectancy,” he noted.
what difference does it make where you live? stupid is stupid.
Uh... guys... I don't see how what Ioan said was anti-American...
uh...if you take what he always says, it was heading that way. sorry you cant see that. you would most likely agree with him if it were allowed to continue.Turquoise wrote:

It does because if I didn't then I would not know how it was there. Stop lamenting yourselves and enjoy your lives. Its much easier to live there compared to .. erm "other" places.

Anyway, read Ioan's latest reply. He's suggesting America is a better place to live than most. That's not exactly an anti-American statement.
For the record, I agree. As much as I complain about America, I still realize it is a better place to live than most of the world is.

i dont think you understand. he takes the dilbert approach to things. no matter what the topic, its usually never something positive to say about america.

I haven't seen Ioan post here much, so you'll have to provide some examples. He must not frequent D&ST much.11 Bravo wrote:

Anyway, I do find this discussion ironic in many respects considering something Galt said in another thread.
He was complaining about the "ease" at which people maintained middle class status in the past and how the current trend means people have to work harder to maintain it (and how that's supposedly good).
If we take that logic to the next step, that means First World citizens are just lazy and should have to struggle the same way that developing world citizens have to, in order to acquire a decent standard of living.
Yet, when someone suggests that being American is privileged compared to most, he's anti-American.
Make up your minds people.
no turq, you are reading way too much into it in order to look balanced and nice. Lyth was correct. ioan called him out and provided nothing to counter it. so, i called him out. anjd, after having dealt with him before, i responded how i wanted to.
No, Lyth is wrong and so are you. The so called proof he gave is nonsense, its dumb. I don't give a damn if the western world is not happy, that has no correlation to life being hard there, but for people wanting to believe its hard.11 Bravo wrote:

Life is much easier over there, whatever you might want to think. I've lived in different parts of the world: Europe, America and Eastern Europe, so I have a good idea of where it is easier to live. Hell its easier in America rather than in Europe.
yes i know those 4 hour lunches in france are really tough.....Ioan92 wrote:

its a well known fact that Americans on average work longer hours and have shorter annual vacations than Europeans.

Thought what? You come here and you complain about life in america being hard then when I add that life is even easier than it is in Europe, you add that 4 hours long dinners must be tough. You just contradict the whole reason of your argument in here, that's why.
Must be really hard to win an average income that is higher than most of the world, isn't it?
