I blame the baby boomers for everything that's wrong with this country. Curse their self centered selfish generation.
Yep, they fucked over later generations with their shortsightedness, and now they want to suck us dry via Social Security and Medicare.

But oh...  we can't have socialized medicine for the young.  That would be too fair to implement.

Thankfully, the boomers in Canada weren't such assholes and actually planned things out right for their younger generations.
It's not a generational thing. Most people our age don't want socialized medicine either. We've seen what a mess government programs can be, why would we possibly want to add to the current medicare/medicaid/SS fiasco? No. Let me keep my taxes and invest my money as I see fit.

America would never be able to get Socialism right anyway, many Americans don't even understand what Socialism is, they think it's the same thing as Communism! America has gone too far down the Capitalist, 'law of the jungle road' now to change into a caring Socialist society. I predict that Obama will either fail to get socialised healthcare passed, or that his Government (or successive Governments) will make a pig's ear of implementing it.

But we're not capitalist, if we were the banks would have failed. Providing bailouts to any industry is socialism/communism.

I wonder if communism would work in the U.S.. It didn't work for the U.S.S.R because they don't have enough natural resources there to provide for the people and need to rely on other countries. I know we are right now, but that's because of the cost..

A couple of points...

• I'm not a big fan of bail-outs but the reality is if you hadn't bailed out the banks there would be neither Capitalism or Communism in America now, it would be complete anarchy.
• Communism wouldn't work in the US. The country is too big and the prevailing mentality is too selfish.
• Russia has plenty of resources - it's fucking ginormous, has loads of oil and gas, and vast tracts of land for agriculture. Communism failed there because it's too big and it's riddled with corruption... in fact the level of corruption meant it wasn't even proper Communism in the end, just a dictatorship.

It's not socialism/communism, it's mercantilism. They're following the neo-mercantilist doctrine set down by Keynes.

As long as governments and corporations exist together, government will usually be for the corporation, by the people.

It doesn't matter if there's a social safety net or not...   either way, your money will be used to pay for the mistakes of the elite rich.

But again, neofeudalism is probably a more accurate way of describing this descent.
