Okay, I have 2 x 512mb sticks, and 1 x 1GB stick.
I can't use them both together because my motherboard won't support that combination in any setup, so which will give me better performance?
Should I dual-channel the 512mb sticks, or just use one 1GB stick?

Why won't it support them both at the same time? What is the spec of the RAM?

Indeed.. That was strange..

Worse performance yes, but no support?

What is the spec on your MB?

Edit:

Thus if you buy the 1 gig 400mhz stick stick the fsb will be 200mhz (ie 400mhz ddr) x single channel(64 bits wide) = 3200Mbs. If you buy the 2 x 512 gig 400mhz sticks stick the fsb will be 200mhz (ie 400mhz ddr) x dual channel(128 bits wide) = 6400Mbs. Either way hypertransport remains the same. Id definately reccomend getting the two 512 mb sticks, as it gives you double the memory speed.

why worse performance,if possible the 512mb on banks 1 and 3,and the 1gb on 2,just keep bank 1 and 3 twinned and there should not be a prob so long as they are the same specs

I'm thinking that the dual-channel will get mixed up if you don't have 1 or 2 matched sets of RAM..

the problem with running the 2 512MB sticks and the 1GB stick at the same time is that you cannot run dual channel using that configuration.  Now I'd say it's probably faster to have 2GB in single channel than 1GB in dual channel, especially for BF2.

Well its possible for you two get 2x 1gigs or if you are a big spender = 2x 2gigs
