everyone knows that when you play SF vid card takes a beating with the night maps
well first off heres my system:
P4 3.2 socket 478 (OCed to 3.6 gig)
2 gigs of ram
audigy 2 zs p/p (latest drivers)
BFG 6800 GT APG w/256 memory (using 84.26 MSI driver - clock speeds 2D = 370MHz - 3D = 370MHz and memory = 1000MHz)
windows XP Pro/SP2 updated
ok my BF2 vid settings:
all maxed out ior lowest settings but AA is off
video card settings via desktop properties:
all off or on lowest settings but image quality at best
BF2 runs great and looks great at 90-100 frames a sec via fraps
now for BF2:SF settings:
all off or lowest settings
video card settings via desktop properties:
all off or on lowest settings and image quality on quality of course
BF2:SF runs at around 30 frames a sec and game pauses for about 5 secs and gets me killed - yep theres a problem there
i run liquid cooling on the proccessor due to the heat the OC caused...vid card - im waiting for the water block to come in
since my BFG vid card is getting super hot (55 degrss celsius at idle and 67 degrees celsius when BF2 is running) this is my problem - so instead of overclocking the vid card to improve gaming performance i underclocked it to cut back on that nasty heat (remember 60 degrees celsius = 140 degrees fahrenheit - so my 67 C = 152.6 F !!! )
using the 84.26 MSI dirver i can underclock my vid card 2D to 340MHz and the 3D to 340MHz and the memory clock to 975 MHz - my heating problem is solved and my frame rates in BF2:SF jumped from 30 frames sec to 80-90 frames a second with no more lock-ups!!!
strange to do at first, underclock a vid card but if you happen to have heating problems try underclocking it...but dont go too much
im hoping with the video card water block i wont have to resort to this but while i wait for the shipment to arrive ill continue to do this to improve my systems performance in SF
btw im using Thermaltake Bigwater SE for my liquid cooling needs - works like a champ - dropped 20 degrees C on my proccessor
