I know completely what you mean.Mekstizzle wrote:
Or maybe it's that you guys don't like football that much so it's not worth trying to sell them on exclusive cable/satellite channels. The only reason they're not on free TV here is because it's to expensive for that. The only reason it's on Satellite TV is that people are willing to pay for that to get their dose of football, and so the execs exploit that and thus more money rolls in. If you get what I'm trying to say here.Ultrafunkula wrote:
You know it's quite funny, some stats showed that Finland has the most footy on TV (free and un-free). We have almost every single premier game on canal plus (dutch league and serie A too on C+) and we have la liga, frenchies and bundesliga on free channels too. We <3 footy.
It's all about exploitation and understanding the market and how far they're willing to go, so you can maximise profits. Think MW2 and how it was like £50 yet still sold like a motherfucker.
But we do actually like. You're right. It's just that it's so expensive nowadays to show it. Free channels have shown the FA cup for instance since the seventies here. Premier used to be (in smaller amounts) on free channels too. And the coke league was too for some time. People started to watch footy more and more in the nineties (basically thanks to Litmanen and his great job in Ajax) and the champions league. Footy has had big ratings here always. The free channels that show football are not commercial channels so they can't afford it. The commercial channels don't give a rats ass about any sports basically.
Canal + (has the nordic rights for premier) sells good because of premier. They're gonna plummet next fall when they don't have it anymore. I for one won't be subscribing anymore after may. And I know plenty of ppl that will do the same. We watch football no matter what it costs.
