Forgot to add Assassins Creed 2. Fucking epic game.

Source may be dead, but it's nearly 10 years old too.Mekstizzle wrote:
The HL2 physics engine is just weak. It's just ragdoll without any animation, all typical 2005 era, literally, floppy ragdolls, not behaving like how it really would. The GTA IV one, there's animation to go with the physics. There's abit more life to it, abit more mass to things. You can produce even stupider shit with the HL2 engine if you really wanted to.
HL2 does alot of things, but it does it all in an half assed bygone era style. Yeah, I've played around alot with things like Gmod and shit. But really, the only thing to talk about is how flexible it is. The Source engine itself is dated. Despite what they say about its flexibility/modularity.
People need to just get over Source already. Even the Frostbite engine is better than Source, as is Crytek or whatever it's called. Especially in the sound department (Frostbite, that is).
I know they use Havok, it was used much better in other games, like AoE III
And it runs on fucking almost EVERYTHING now. Which is a bonus. Also has good games produced for it.
I want BF:BC2. Exploding buildings in BC was fun.
Whoa... Can't believe these forums are still kicking.
its long as hell when u take into account the many side quest, beat my cheating husband missions, petruccio's feather collection, altairs armor and sword quest, etc. the story is a lot better than MW2 ( hate to say it).trex1210 wrote:

AC 2 i beat 6 times already,.
I was surprised in how long it was. When I thought the game was going to end and it didn't I was happy.specialistx2324 wrote:

I'm going to include mods in my list because I can!
No halo or call of duty on this list,
10. Company of Heroes
9. Half-Life 2
8. The Orange Box, most notably Portal
7. Sorry but you gotta admit that Guitar Hero was a friggin genius invention
6. Whats better than Guitar Hero? Rock Band/Guitar Hero World Tour
5. Day of Defeat (Original)
4. Desert Combat
3. Battlefield 2
2. Natural-Selection
1. Red Orchestra Ostfront 41-45, the best tactical shooter I've played, realistic yet still keeps you entertained.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
It's simply the best game to come out in those two millenniums, It was such a masterpiece that it effectively had risen all my standards for video games. I simply cannot playing else other than modern warfare two because they just don't live up to its great standards. The storyline is an impressive masterpiece, it's almost as awesome as 2001: A space odyssey. It makes so much sense and it's so logical. Also the weapons handle so realistically unlike in those shitty games where the bullets hit 260 km off of your cross hairs. The multi-player is just awesome, it exceeds battlefield 2's and is so simple to use. Nobody ever cheats or swears and the game-play is always latency-free.
I honestly recommend it to anyone, I would of payed more than 60 pounds for this, but the shop didn't want my money.

Here's my top ten lists off the top of my head, occasionally with short explanations. For this, I'll be limiting myself to PC releases (exclusive and non-exclusive), putting them under genre categories (limited to 10 each), and setting them in order of release date:
Hybrid
Savage: The Battle for Newerth (2003 SEP) S2 Games; iGames
- the commander in this game is in charge of base building, workers and defenses; soldiers (other players) can help with mining and construction, but their real job is to take control points, defend their stuff and kill the enemy's stuff
Battlefield 2 (2005 JUN) Digital Illusions CE; EA Games
- the squad system is honestly what made this game a title of its own beyond Battlefield 1942 and Vietnam; without that, it would've just been a sequel like any other
Action, Stealth
Thief II: The Metal Age (2000 MAR) Looking Glass Studios; Eidos Interactive
- the pure definition of stealth gaming...you can fight if you have the strike/parry reflexes, but you are way better off staying in the background
The Operative: No One Lives Forever (2000 NOV) Monolith Productions; Fox Interactive
- you can choose stealth or action
Hitman: Codename 47 (2000 DEC) IO Interactive; Eidos Interactive
- no better or worse than the others in the franchise, but this is where, to my belief, most Hitman fans got their start
FPS
Serious Sam: The First Encounter (2001 MAR) Croteam; Gathering of Developers
- ahead of its time in graphics, coop gameplay throughout the entire massive campaign and a heap of monsters; what Duke Nukem Forever should have been
Aliens vs. Predator 2 (2001 OCT) Sierra Entertainment, Fox Interactive
- to this day the two AvP games have done the best at actually making me nervous wreck while playing
Star Wars: Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast {Star Wars: Dark Forces 3} (2002 MAR) Raven Software, Vicarious Visions; LucasArts, Activision, Aspyr Media, CyberFront
- lightsaber fights online are awesome, and it doesn't hurt that single player is good too; this is yet another title that proves a walk key, while not having any specific mechanical function, does a really good job of making you look cool and is often used on 1v1 duels
Mafia: The City of Lost Heaven (2002 AUG) Illusion Softworks; Gathering of Developers
- to be honest, I preferred this over what little I played of GTA; for 2002, the graphics are great, and the game itself is supported by a pretty nice story
Battlefield 1942 (2002 SEP) Digital Illusions CE; Electronic Arts
- still the best of the Battlefields in my opinion, but I am biased towards navies
Armed and Dangerous (2003 DEC) Planet Moon Studios; LucasArts
- once again proving that the FPS can be funny as well as awesomely creative
Unreal Tournament 2004 (2004 MAR) Epic Games, Digital Extremes; Atari
- I've spent the most of my modding time screwing around with maps for this easy-to-mod title; online play is rock solid
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (2007 NOV) Infinity Ward; Activision
- accept no substitute...not even the sequel; balanced for lean
Left 4 Dead (2008 NOV) Valve
- while Left 4 Dead 2 has more game modes and a more complex map structure, Left 4 Dead is the game that started the franchise and has the characters we're used to; PEELZ HERE
RPG, Action
Freedom Force (2002 JAN) Irrational Games; Electronic Arts
- did an admiral job of bringing campy comic book humor into the realm of PC gaming
Star Trek: Bridge Commander (2002 FEB) Totally Games; Activision
- a very underrated tactical sim, allowing you to battle other starships down to the point where you're targeting ship subsystems and watching your enemies get blown to bits...in little pieces at a time; this, together with a system like "Knights of the Old Republic," would've combined to make a great "Star Trek Online"
Divine Divinity (2002 SEP) Larian Studios; CDV
- the equal of "Diablo 2" in every respect but its lack of multiplayer...understandable, because of its more complex quest and story system
The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind - Game of the Year Edition (2003 OCT) Bethesda Game Studios; Bethesda Softworks/ZeniMax, Ubisoft
Diablo - Battle Chest (2003 DEC) Blizzard North; Blizzard Entertainment
Guild Wars: Factions (2006 APR) ArenaNet; NCSoft
- not the original game, but Factions did a great job kick-starting PVP multiplayer at a time when it was just about worn out
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion - Game of the Year Edition (2007 SEP) Bethesda Game Studios; 2K Games, Bethesda Softworks
Borderlands (2009 OCT) Gearbox Software; 2K Games
- not just a really cool use of Unreal Engine 3, but a welcome return to more great coop gameplay for the non-MMO RPG franchise; short, but highly charismatic
Divinity 2: Ego Draconis (2009 NOV) Larian Studios; DTP Entertainment, cdv Software Entertainment (United States)
- the long-awaited sequel of Divine Divinity, this was a 2009 release in Europe, so it counts even if it was released in 2010 in North America; a really cool metamorphosis RPG
RTS
Age of Empires II - Gold Edition (2001 AUG) Ensemble Studios; Microsoft
Warhammer 40K: Dawn of War - Platinum Edition (2007 MAY) Relic Entertainment; THQ
- admittedly, the mechanics are much different than the table top WH40K, but it makes up for that in that the action is fast-paced and the melee combat animations and sync kills ooze personality
Company of Heroes - Gold Edition (MAR 2008) Relic Entertainment; THQ
Warcraft III - Battle Chest (2003 SEP) Blizzard Entertainment
The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Ring (2003 NOV) Liquid Entertainment; Sierra Entertainment
- deserves more than just honorable mentions; two years after the film release of Jackson's "The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring," this game had the balls to interpret the books on its own, and did a decent job of being playable as well; also features a great musical score
Plants vs. Zombies (2009 JUL) PopCap Games
Star Trek: Armada II (2001 NOV) Mad Doc Software; Activision
- hands down one of the best Star Trek games ever made; if you like Trek and the RTS genre, check it out - save the galaxy or assimilate your very own fleet
================
Sorry, cutting it short here. I'm not going to go beyond 10:45 with this one.

If I made one addition to my above post, it would be "Red Faction 3". Once you get past the release patch and some levels of glitchiness, it is a VERY fun game.
BF 1942 blew my mind the first time I played back in the day.
Then BFV blew my mind.
Then BF2 blew my mind.
Then HL2 blew my mind.
Then this broad blew my dick.
Now I don't play video games so much.

Indeed. Although I preferred the first one for unnknown reasons, both games were superb. Along with the "Elite Force" games, I spent countless hours in them.unnamednewbie13 wrote:

I still have the box from mine, though I sold the disc. The price tag on it is $5.99, it goes on ebay for $80-200.Sisco10 wrote:

"masterpiece" typical gay comment from eurotrash like urself
I liked both 1 and 2, but I preferred 2 because that's what I got to play all the time at LAN parties. I also enjoyed the Elite Force games, but they didn't have the staying power for me to make it into my top ten FPS games.Sisco10 wrote:

True dat. As enjoying as the Elite Force game were, there wasn´t much incentive to play through them a third or fourth time. I loved splattering those pesky little aliens with the shotgun though. Frying Borg with the endless modulator was great fun too. The anxiousness and fright one experienced after you shot them a few times with the phaser and they adjusted their shielding...unnamednewbie13 wrote:

Yeah. Too bad they never got as detailed in story as the 'assimilation' in Quake 4.Sisco10 wrote:

I never came to that part. I just played it like half a year ago for the first time and I just couldn´t stand it. Quit playing while assaulting the first planet.unnamednewbie13 wrote:

I did hear and see about the "operation" though. Nasty.
1. MW2
2. CoD4
3. CS:S
4. Halo 3
5. BF2
6. CoD2
Played a lot of other games but these are the only worthy ones of being listed.

Hm
in no specific order
CoDUO
BF1942
BFV
BF2
CnC:RA2 + YR
CoH
CoD4, although this would definitely go at the bottom of the pile. Shout out to the zomdb and Obscurity modders.
I've had a real mental blank now and I can't actually think of anything else but I'm sure there are more
