breif summary:
some kids i know were at a new years party.
some 19 year old on probation who was on E, took mushrooms, and was drunk was trying to pick fights with kids.
they kick guy out
guy gets in fight with 43 year old drug dealer on acid in the driveway
beats the guy to death
gets arrested
statements taken from everyone at the party which plenty of people saw fight
5 days later hes out of county with no charges.

?????

no no no, the 19 year old basically jumped the guy standing there and beat him to death. he was looking for a fight.

guys on probation too and the drugs alone should land him some good jailtime

Maybe the fact that everyone was on drugs/drunk and/or some other information that wasn't posted convinced the DA that going to trial would be a waste of time and money. It happens all the time.

DA's gotta be convinced that a jury might convict.

Maybe they will charge someone later on - they very well could not have enough evidence to charge him right now, so they release and gather evidence with the intent to charge him at some point in the future.

He'll most likely have to face his PO for probation violations. Depending on what type of probation he's on, simply being at a party with people on drugs could be a violation. Fighting definitely is, regardless of if he gets charged or not.

I just gathered from the OP that this guy had already been on trial and acquitted (I missed the part where he said it was an NYE party).
