What tickles BF2s's fancy in the way of shoegaze?

Me, I just found this band called Darker My Love. Other shoegazey bands I'm into include The Morning After Girls and The Brian Jonestown Massacre.

I also like what these people upload to YouTube:

I like shoegaze for its subtle complexity and depth. One really has to listen intently to hear all that's going on within the wall of noise.

Not a huge fan of the genre, but I do like M83 and Dykehouse.

Not sure if this one qualifies as shoegaze, but it's similar at least.

Oh of course, I think it was "Only Shallow" that got me into the whole genre. Have you been to a show of theirs?

And I completely forgot, The Verve's first album had some really good stuff on it.

shoegaze was 'fresh' in the 80's and early 90's.

not now. not at all.

So, do they ever play the guitar, or just play with the amp, because that's what those top three videos looked/sounded like to me.

err DUHHHHHHHHHHHH

"shoegaze"

it's effects laden

the post is it goes beyond just playing the guitar as a stringed instrument

otherwise it would just be... well, rock

A guitar is meant to be played, not stared at (unless it's signed by Elvis).  But it was the 90's, so it fits in well with the other atrocious "music" from that decade

I love 90's music. Obviously not all of it is great, but I think the 90's had way better music than the 00's.

Shoegazing is a style of alternative rock that emerged from the United Kingdom in the late 1980s. It lasted until the mid 1990s, peaking circa 1990 to 1993. The British music press (notably NME and Melody Maker) called this genre “shoegazing” because the musicians in these bands often maintained a motionless performing style, standing on stage and staring at the floor while playing their instruments; hence, the idea that they were gazing at their shoes.

try again

either way, it's crap

lol you try again; defining musical genres through wikipedia. nice one.

there have been thousands of shoegaze bands post-2000. popularity maybe peaked in the 90's, but it's not a '90's genre' in the way that glam-rock is an 80's genre.

either way, it's not crap. the guitars ARE played... the pedalboards are stared at, as opposed to wanking over fret-virtuosity and ejaculating on your audience.
