ever since 1.5 i get the strangest lag every so often. at the beginning of a round (if i join a new server) and periodically during the round, there will be a 30 second period of terrible lag. the game is unplayable until it stops, and it's driving me bananas. i suspect punkbuster, any tricks i'm unware of?

- moments of lag that come and go
Tried making the time inbetween PB checks longer?
I think it's pb_sleep or something.

i get something similar
the beginning of the round the screen freezes for 1/2 second every 3-4 seconds then eventually stops happening. VERY ANNOYING.
if EA fucked with my PB.......

The US economy is a giant Ponzi scheme. And 'to big to fail' is code speak for 'niahnahniahniahnah 99 percenters'
from tweakguides.comClearing Shader Optimizations: When you change the graphical settings or install a new patch, BF2 attempts to optimize the shaders used in the game for the best performance on your particular hardware. These optimized files are stored in your \Documents and Settings\[username]\My Documents\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\cache\ directory in XP or \[username]\Documents\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\cache\ in Vista. If you've changed your settings several times, I recommend you finalize your changes, close BF2, go to the above directory and delete everything under the \cache\ directory. The next time you start the game and play single or multiplayer, your shaders will be optimized again. Close BF2 one more time, defragment your hard drive, and now things should be much smoother and load much faster the next time you go to play BF2.
gonna try that and see

this is exactly what happens... i'll see if the tweakguides stuff helps. i can't help but think its PB related since it happens every so often in game even after i join. i've also heard alot of people complaining about it.Stubbee wrote:

well clearing the shaders helped loading times but not the annoying lag (crashed twice into choppers) grrr.

any luck steelie?
pb_sleep 500 seems to work at times but it seems to still happen there less frewquently. which makes sense i guess.
i remember doing setting pb_sleep before so the 1.5 patch DID fuck up PB. it was set to 60.

how could that be related? if it was a hardware issue, i wouldn't expect it to come and go the way it does. its not like it gets laggy and i have to reboot... it gets laggy for about 30 seconds, and then stops. it has to be either a network issue or some sort of paging done on the hard drive.I'm Jamesey wrote:

Tried re-applying patch 1.5 over the "old" 1.5?
This fixed it for me.

I've used the same patch that I already had on my computer. For some reason it worked perfectly when I re-applied the patch, kind like if something didn't patch properly the first time. Worth a shot.
