At last I ordered my Raptor drives *Dance*

I want to put them into RAID 0, but unsure how to (First time me or my step dad ever done RAID) could someone please tell us how to do it?

Thanks

First - does your SATA controller support RAID?  If so, you wil lneed to find out how to drop into the controller's BIOS and turn RAID 0 on.  Also, make certain ytouy have the controller drivers handy on floppy disk.   Then, as you re-load Windows, press F6 when it tells you to and follow the instructions for floppy use.

Have fun!

Find the RAID drivers for your mobo/RAID chip and put them on a floppy.

Install drives to the connectors for the RAID controller (look in your mobo manual for which connectors go to the RAID chip).

Boot up.

Go into BIOS and set the two drives as a striped array or RAID 0.  Again, see manual for exectly where in the BIOS you do this.  Also make sure the RAID arrray is in the boot sequence.

Begin installing Windows.

When it says Press F6 to install third party RIAD/SCSI drivers, push F6.

Insert the floppy.

Windows hopefully finds the drivers and installs them.

When you get to the partitioning page, you should see a drive with twice the size of each drive (the total of the two).  Install windows there.

That's it.

Assuming your mobo supports RAID the manual should say something similar to whats above. One tip: make sure and have another computer or laptop around at the time - first time I set up RAID I used it a lot!

I'd be interested to know how much difference you notice - I've got 3 37GB Raptors in RAID 0 and don't notice a huge difference compared to my other IDE drive (although thats only my perception, I've never run any benchmarks on em).

I had big problems installing the drivers and even after i got a floppy drive again XP still could not coppy the driver files....
Anyway i have my old drive as C: drive and i'm using RAID0 for BF" and everything else...
Long story short i'm usually the first on the map.

same here. two 37gb raptors in raid 0 does not give a huge performance advantage over a single raptor. system boot and application load times are the same despite what some online review says. like the one at overclockers.com. i dont know how they got their huge performance increase by more than half on raid 0. thats considering they are also using software raid. i say he should have saved money to buy a better video card.
