So was thinking of starting to program iPhone apps for fun (not for profit).

The developer license is $300 I believe, but I heard that if you buy that you'll get a discount off your first mac book purchase.  Is this true?

Besides Youtube, any good references?

Should I learn Objective-C first and THEN jump into iPhone programming?  (i.e. the cart before the horse)

What iPhone apps have you made?

Objective C would be very helpful before you go and spend the $300. My friend also uses Cocoa for developing OSx/iPhone apps.

Or if you already know Java, just start developing for Android. Open source, baby.

Google's Nexus One is interesting to say the lease.  However, from studies it seems that iPhone users are willing to pay more for apps than Android users.  Apple also have 4.0% of the phones in the United States...

You can download (illegally) the software for free. Learn it, and if you come up with a good idea, then buy it from Apple.
