No such thing as a hate crime. If those black people beat up another black guy, tell me the difference in the crime or the punishment.

It's a matter of principle. If you're gonna have hate crime legislation then you should apply it equally. Don't tell me you don't think that if the races were reversed you'd hear no end to their hate crime charges.

For the record, I'm not a big proponent of hate crime laws.  A crime is a crime.

It's funny...there are crimes of opportunity, crimes of desperation, crimes of passion, etc. etc. etc.  We've always had hate crime...it used to be called crimes of malice...but guess that isn't as catchy.

I don't believe in assigning politically motivated terms to crimes but I do believe in crimes have degrees.

Example...killing someone with intent to kill them...murder. 

However, if I spent months planning it, rehearsing it and then performing it in a particularly brutal manner such as chopping you up while your kids were forced to watch...murder. Punishment should be swift and severe.

I do not think it is the same, nor should be punished equally with the teen who is constantly beat up by his step-father and then one day in a act of retribution kills his step-father in his sleep.

So a crime is not a crime in my opinion however I think the term 'hate crime' was invented and employed for political purposes...

Honestly, I have a feeling these were more about just robbing and attacking whoever.

The article said a women was the one who said how much she hated white people and as we all know women have a problem running their mouths off saying stupid things or whatever they feel at the moment.

I don't think the race of the victims had anything to do with it other than whites tend to have more money than any other race group.

It doesn't. What it does show is that even with the same 'result' the motive makes one scenario worse then the other.

No it doesn't. Unless of course, someone is MORE dead with a racial motive than with a robbert motive.

It also said a guy said that he hated white people. And regardless, it's not like black people just have rags and some peanuts to their names. Surely they could find some black guy with a nice watch. I mean, they wouldn't, because they don't have a "beef" with black people.
