Well, I searched these forums but could not find an answer to my problem so here goes:

Since getting my new pc up and running i cannot get any bf2 patches to work.  I have tried using many different patches from 1.2 all the way through to 1.22 and all of them just stop running and dont complete patching.  Things are ok if I install and play BF2 vanilla, but as i say, i cannot patch it at all.  All patches used were the full versions, and i tried downloading them from various places - EA included.  Never had any problems like this on my old rig, so could it be some kind of hardware incompatibility?  Here are my specs:

Athlon 64 3800+ x2 dual core
leadtek geforce 7800gt pci express
2 gb pc3200 ram
Asus A8n sli mobo

Thanks in advance for any advice/help on this matter

P.S - tried multiple uninstall/reinstalls to no avail....

Run patches under the administrator account to do so right click on the patch.exe and choose Run As option from the menu, i dont know if this is going to solve your problem but it is worth trying because thats why patches didnt work in my pc.

I assume you are using Windows XP as the OS.

Thanks for the Reply Answeller.  Only one account on my pc, and that is the administrator one .  And yes, my o/s is xp sp2.  Any other ideas?

Spoke to EA technical support on this matter.  Followed their instructions on removing bf2 from the registry, reinstalled, attempted to patch, still no joy. Just the message "patch failed".  Believe me, only having around 30 unranked servers and no ranked servers through bf2 vanilla is no fun.  Hope there is a solution to this somewhere....

Hey King

I am having the SAME EXACT problem.

I have been working with EA for days now to try and solve.  They keep telling me to uninstall everyting, then reinstall BF2 / SF / patch 1.22.  But it has not worked.  I get the same "patch failed" message about 5% into it.  And, it screws up my game - so I have to uninstall / reinstall every time I try a new patch.

One member here tried installing 1.21 full, then 1.22 incrimental and it worked.

He also talked with EA and they told him to download and install the patch in safemode.

I have not tried either of these - but will tonight.

I have similar specs - and it is a brand new computer I just finished assembling.  I thought it might be a problem with my dual cores?  or my BIOS settings? but everthing else works on the computer!

x2 dual core 4800+
XFX 7900 GT pci e
2g pc 3200 OCZ Ram
Asus A8N32 SLI deluxe mobo

No overclocking yet or anything fancy....

very frustrating!!!

Try updating ALL your hardware drivers.. including BIOS flash. It might help but I can't tell for sure

This is from another thread.....

After 1.22 the servers are no longer letting me in and say that I have modified game content. Anyone come accross that one? Also the number of servers has decreased dramatically and the whole of my favourites has turned red ... is it really so that most have remained with 1.21?

I agree with the ones before me regarding support class ... 1.2 put shame on the class. PCWs are now held with a "no support" clause.

Ah, now I had this problem! Couldn't find a solution to it, so you have to uninstall everything, reinstall everything and then (and only then) do you patch it. If you are installing BF2: SF, then you have to install incremental patches 1.12, 1.2, 1.21 and finally 1.22. This is because SF installs 1.1 when itself is installed.

Hope this helps you out enough,

Will try that...

I assume they have the latest drivers for the BIOS on the ASUS site?

Nivida has the card and the chipset I know....

Thanks for your posts guys.  Updated all my hardware drivers, but still no joy.  At least I know I am not alone in this problem now though!  Tuna, if you do manage to resolve this situation I would very much appreciate you posting the solution here(as I am sure you would have anyway).  Rest assured that if I manage to remedy the problem, I will post the fix. Cheers, and let's hope we can get this sorted!  For now I think I will try using the early patches, and if they work then use the incrementals up to 1.22.

Well, problem seems to be sorted!  I simply downloaded the full version of the 1.12, applied that which worked fine, then in turn downloaded and applied the incremental patches.  The incrementals were all downloaded through the EA downloader.  Lord knows why the full patches wouldn't work, but sorted now!  Hope this helps you too Tuna!  See you all on the battlefield:)

Great King!  You must be pumped....after the drawn out problem.  I will try it tonight as well.  Did you do a complete uninstall / reinstall of BF2 and SF before you started downloading the patches (1.12, 1.2, 1.21 and finally 1.22)?  Did you do incrimental 1.12 or full 1.12?  also, did you do it in safe mode or normal mode?

Thanks very much - it sounds like we have the same exact problem....so I wanted to pick your brain a bit and make SURE I do it the exact same way!!!!

thanks

Did a full uninstall/reinstall of bf2 and bf2:sf.  Next I downloaded the full 1.12 patch. Then applied the full version of 1.12, then incrementally from 1.12 through to 1.22. All of this was done in normal mode.  Hope this sorts you out Tuna, please post back or send a pm just to let me know.  Fingers crossed this will be the fix for you too as we have very similar hardware, and an identical problem.  Good luck mate:)

Hey King......it worked for me too!!  I was on the edge of my seat installing each incrimental patch....but they all installed and I was able to play a game late last night on the new machine...sweet....can't wait to get back there tonight and not have to worry about install.

By the way EA was pretty much useless for this particular issue.  Their latest advise was that I check my drivers and make sure they are up to date....they didn't even comment on starting with 1.12 and patching up incrimentally to 1.22.....anyway....maybe this thread will help others with the same issue.  I am thinking it is some kind of hardware issue as we have almost the exact same system.....hope to see you out there!!

Glad to hear it Tuna!  Why this method works I don't know, but lets hope this thread helps a few others in the same boat.  See you on the battlefield   And yes, EA were pretty useless for me too!

I've just read this thread, due to having similar problems with installing my 1.22 patch.  Tried the full patch 1.22 and no luck.  The only time that I've had good gameplay has been while running the incrementals.  I will also try this patch diagram and let you know if it works.  You may be onto something.  Believe me, major karma will be flowin' if it works.  After 6+ weeks of not being able to play battlefield, I'm at my whitts end.

delete all

install bf2
full 1.3 patch
install EF
again with full 1.3

worked for me but seems to be several problems out there good luck i suggest getting another game for a couple weeks.

How did it work?  It is still working for me....I just installed incrimental 1.3 and that worked as well.
