Hey guys,

i've noticed that after i play bf2 for a while it tends to crash to desktop,it might do it once a week, or maybe once a month, i get no pop-ups, nothing at all.
I've scanned for viruses, and ad-aware.
Even done a whole system re-install.
Wiped everything.

Here are my system specs:

P4 3.0ghz 800fsb
eVGA 6600GT 128mb AGP
2gb kingston pc3200 ram
350w PSU
80gb HD

When i was glancing through my manual for the card, i noticed that it required atleast a 350w PSU, one of my friends told me that if your computer isn't getting enough power, it can crash or restart.

It was doing this madly a while ago. BF2 would run for 10 min max.
Then i went into my bios settings and turned off the "power management " setting.
Been fine ever since. Except for the odd restart.
It only does this when i play BF2, i just want to know if its being caused by the PSU.
I don't want to not worry about it and further prolong the damage, if any, to my computer.
Cause $1000+ can be alot of money to spend on a new system

I was thinking that maybe the crashing im getting now is caused by not enough power to the components of the computer.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

it might not be your power supply. the 6600gt does not use a lot of power. does it not have a power connector on the card? did you try playing with the timings of your ram? are you overclocking the ram? or cpu?

Download Motherboard Monitor 5 and check your voltages. Set it up to log them and then run a game and see if they change much.

Also keep in mind that it's not only wattage that's important, but amps as well. 24A on the 12V rail(s) is the recommended minimum for most modern video cards.

perfect advice TSK.  What brand is your power supply and what are the amps on the different rails (more specifically the +12V rail)?  You can find this info on the sticker on the side of the power supply.

I've never overclocked my computer at all.
Im not sure about the ram part, i don't know how to change the timings on them.

And my powersupply came with my case,
antec case, really cheap, im pretty sure it was 60$.

I doubt it is you PSU, but you never know. Sounds like it could also be an overheating issue, and this can be very intermittent depending on ambient temps, etc. BF2 really uses all the hardware to the max and this heats up the components.

1. Make sure your PC has good ventilation - i.e. not inside a computer desk or on a carpet that blocks the front intake vents.
2. Get a can of compressed air and give it a good cleaning - especially the fans (PSU, CPU, GPU, etc.) If your house tends to be dusty or you have pets this all gets caught up in your computer quickly.
3. Consider getting more or larger fans for your case or a new CPU cooler.

Good luck,

When i play bf2 the temps can get between 45 and 50 celcius.
I do use the compressed air, but haven't done it in a while.
I probably should move the tower, cause right now its on the floor under my desk.
And as for the CPU fan, i bought a Zalman cooling fan.
I was thinking about getting a fan for the front, moves in about 119 CFM of air, right now i only have the fans that come standard in my case, theres no fan in the front of it, but there is a spot for one.

Is there any kind of fan that you guys can reccomend.

Thats the store where i get all my computer stuff from.

Any help with picking out a fan would be appreciated.

And where would be a good place to put the tower?

run motherboard monitor like the other guy suggested. and keep in mind that if your readings are within +/-3 for each voltage then your psu is alright. but there is a known problem with antec power supplies. they are weak on the 3.3v and 5v. even their high end models are known to crash systems because the 3.3v and 5v dips below spec when stressed to the limit.

i looked at the store you buy stuff from. they have enermax power supplies. those are the ones to get if you want stable and long lasting units.
