Heh heh, its like an apple.....*CRUNCH!!*
that comes under the realm of 'antimatter bomb' i believe
No, the big crunch is predicated on the belief that the universe will stop expanding and collapse back in on itself, sort of a reverse big bang. I believe this theory is no longer in favor, as doppler evidence shows that galaxies are speeding up in their flight away from one another, where they should be slowing down. In other words, if there is the mutual gravitational attraction of all the seperate galaxies is enough to stop their outward motion and pull them back together, then the 'big crunch' will happen. If there isn't enough, they will just keep flying outward until, well, who knows. I don't believe the explanation given on that site for this last possibility is entirely accurate, as the force that binds atoms together is not the same as gravity (not in my understanding at least), so while galaxies may eventually drift apart due to lack of gravity, I do not believe that individual planets and atoms will fall apart.
