Hey guys, I've been having touble with this glitch since I started playing BF2 (July 05 ish). Its continued happening despite patching the game and updating my graphics card drivers. Here is an example of it, this happened today when I was playing on Sharqi:

https://images5.pictiger.com/thumbs/b5/55172e7fd8aaa301e9fc515216153db5.th.jpg

This "column" just seems to spring up from the cliffs in that area of the map and takes on the texture of the rock. I get similar things on other levels aswell, for example columns of water rising from the sea on Clean Sweep and columns of sand in the desert on Gulf of Oman.

It doesn't happen every time I play or on every map, certain maps tend to favour the emergence of these "columns", Oman and Clean Sweep being the favourites.

Any advice on how to fix this problem would be appreciated, my specs are as follows:

Athlon XP 3000+
1 gig Ballistix ram
GeForce 6800GT
Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe mobo

Thanks!

If your system is overclocked, turn it down.

My machine isn't overclocked, so I don't think it could be that. Thanks for the help anyway.

Used to have that probelm with my old 6600, never relaly pinned it down, first off what PSU you got in there??

I only thought about it recently and my old PCs' PSU sucked ass, and the gfx card was pretty hungry, if you upgraded to that 6800 from something else then it's a possibility.

I'll look into it for you though.

P.S check your drivers!

I've got an Asaka 460W in here. I haven't upgraded my gfx card, this machine was built from scratch about a year ago and all the original components remain. Thanks for your help!

He said those are updated.

I am curious to know the mfg of his card, though. That screenshot reveals a stretch-to-infinity bug, and altering terrain geometry detail may (or may not) fix it.

For a bit of trivia, my 6800 Ultra likes to deform sidewalk "terrain" in Karkand, despite it being uncomplex geometry. This has happened ever since 1.22, though.

Sorry I don't have any solution for this issue, but I am very curious about it. Have you tried flying a heli or plane into these columns? I wonder if they are clipped or not.

I've just installed the latest Forceware drivers for my gfx card - I'm not sure if that will do much as I've updated drivers before and the problem has persisted.

I haven't flown a heli/plane into them, but I can walk through them. If i stand in the middle of one i can "see out", its as if it isn't there. When I walk out of it, it reappears and I can no longer see through to the other side.

I'm going for a game now - will have RivaTuner running to monitor how hot my card gets.

I get some pretty insane graphics errors too, and I'm running a geforce 7800 gtx 512mb card, no overclocking. Alt-tabbing out and back into bf2 causes them to all go away, and I can do this in a couple seconds so its not much of a problem. It has caused more than a few untimely deaths though. Because alt tabbing out fixes it, I dont think its an overheating problem, and I've done more than one reinstall of bf2 and had the same issues.

Arg. I've bought one product from EVGA (e-Geforce4MX) and it burnt out within two years, even without overclocking.

freinds comp used to do that alot with a 6600. i d/led rivatuner for him and disabled fast writes and checked the box that said "force compatibility between motherboard and graphic card". or something like that and now that doesnt appear anymore. try it out it might work. if it does work dont forget to hit the apply settings everytime when starting computer. otherwise you'll have to make this change everytime you turn on your comp. on a side note i have a 7800 gtx oc and dont have that prob. what mobo and psu you got?

eVGA only offers lifetime warrantys on/or after the date of June 22 2005, so if you bought it after that date, send it in, but if not, just phone and pray that they will replace it.
But if i were you, i would get a better card, or start thinking about cooling.
50 degrees celcius would definetly cut a chunk off of the life of your card.
