Why are the majority of Jews Liberals?

Disclaimer: I'm half Jew so I'm not trying to get some religious hate storm going on I'm just wondering why.

So what the hell is the deal with Jews, especially wealthy ones, being ultra liberal?

An overwhelming majority of American Jews - 73 percent - describe themselves as moderate or liberal; 23 percent label themselves as conservative. Only 19 percent voted for Bush in the 2000 elections, but there are indications that Jewish support for the Republican Party is on the rise.

I think it may have to do with the hard line ultra-Christian turn the right took. Mind you guys being liberal doesn't mean you're a hippy, they're such things as liberal hawks

Reaction to Nazism would be my guess, that on average they tend to be smarter, and much of 'Republicanism' is really a jingoistic throwback to the US revolution which the jews don't give a toss about since its irrelevant to them and the modern world.

What is Republicanism anyway? Seems like a lot of neo-con devout free-market extremism - led by the mega-coporations who want the free market controlled the way they want it - washed with a bit of historical babble so morons vote for it.

Seems to me the original revolutionaries weren't remotely 'Republican' in the modern sense.

Are they really liberals? I mean, liberals in what way? If you mean they vote Democrat, well that's not being liberal at all... much the opposite really...
Imo it doesn't really matter which of the two big parties they vote for. Pro-Israel lobbies are kosher with both Dems and Reps so they get what they want either ways.

Many will be thrown off by the racist aspect of right-wing policies, that's for sure... Other than that I see no reason why anyone would vote based on race, one's economic status is clearly more relevant - and apparently not all Jews are rich...

On the average jews are a good deal smarter than average, take a walk through your local trailer park and find me a jew.
There is an inverse correlation between intelligence and voting Republican, for obvious reasons.

There are many, many liberal jews who don't support what Israel does BTW, Israel probably has more Christian supporters than jewish ones.

I'll take the crown though.

I would guess most jews would support the party's economic and foreign relations stance, it's the religion that pushes them out.
