Rejoice! Tony Blair drifts off into the grey obscurity of his own guilt and sycophantic failure!

So how do fellow Europeans see this appointment, and that of the EU Foreign Minister? A good choice? A poor choice? A 'who the fuck is he?' choice?

What do you think the role of the EU president should be in the context of the diversity of nations that make up the EU?

Y'all really had to go and fuck up a system that worked for thousands of years just to add more beurocracy and control to a smaller number of people didn't ya. Consolidation of power is never a good thing. You just gave Napoleon and Hitler what they wanted without even lifting a finger to stop it. Grats.

Good one John, anyway...

The whole ordeal begs the question, "Who cares". So out of a load of unknown small time politicians and Tony Blair one of the small timer's won. Congrats to Herman, another bureaucratic position has been created and he got he position. Wooo. Now I guess Russia, China and the US will take this guy seriously and know that he speaks for the whole of a united Europe, not.

As long as he stops the EU trying to take our fucking carriers off us and introduce the Euro I'll support him.

All this shit is bollocks, it's not surprising though that the Germans or French or Italians want a united Europe though, that's what they've been trying to do for the past thousand or so years anyway

People would gladly tell this guy to fuck off, even moreso if it was Tony Blair

The selection of Van Rompuy is interesting in that if the EU really wanted to be the superstate everyone suspects them to want to become, they would have chosen somebody totally different from him. The EU 'President' is a misnomer, his hands are completely tied by the strong national rights each member nation retains. There could never be an EU 'President' in the US mould.

I see no point in the whole Pres/PM names. If anything. they should be called chairman/secretary because I don't remember voting for anyone. That being said, I don't remember voting regarding the whole Lisbon-thing either. Oh yeah, that's right, we didn't get to vote.

So thank goodness that there's no actual power involved. Yet.

To be honest, I'd rather he hadn't won just for the simple fact that there's going to be a massive shit storm when they'll have to appoint the new PM of Belgium. The francophones are going to be crying bloody murder if it's not going to be a Walloon...

However, I don't think his election came as a surprise. It was obvious that they weren't going to elect someone from the bigger nations, because now they can still exert their influence on a global scale whilst ignoring the rather hollow function that is the EU presidency. A president from a smaller country means he can't just use his political or economic power, he'll have to still rely on the big players. I think he's going to act more as a puppet.

Behind closed doors yesterday, Fredrik Reinfeldt held an Uglyness Contest. Male pageant winner got to be prez and the femal pageant winner PM.

Good thing politics has nothing to do with how you look.
