Girlfriend's laptop keeps freezing and i'm stumped. thing just stops working, only about a year and a half old

Vista ultimate
GB and a half of RAM
Some intel core duo thing
doesnt get too hot.

Defragged it, check disked it, cleaned up the registry, took a load of useless programs off.

It runs for about half an hour in safe mode before completely freezing less than 10 mins normally.

Nothing suddenly spikes (CPU usage, RAM usage etc)

Im completely stumped. Any suggestions?
I'd type my pc specs out all fancy again but teh mods would remove it. Again.

Clean out any dust, check temps, Stability test with IBT or LinX, memtest
once upon a midnight dreary, while i pron surfed, weak and weary, over many a strange and spurious site of ' hot  xxx galore'. While i clicked my fav'rite bookmark, suddenly there came a warning, and my heart was filled with mourning, mourning for my dear amour, " 'Tis not possible!", i muttered, " give me back my free hardcore!"..... quoth the server, 404.

Yup - what max said.

I had similar problems with a work laptop a year or so ago, the solution of all things turned out to be using canned air on it. Job done !.
