Portrait + Lighting Post
Ok, so the cadet portraits are tomorrow night and I thought it would be a good idea to mess around with my borrowed lighting gear. I know the setup I'll be using, but I thought it might be fun to try a few different things.
I ended up dragging dad into our front room to get him to pose for me. He tried the "one photo" line, but I would have none of that. I made him stick around and we eventually came up with this:
Now, a challenge... if you chose to accept it...
I want you to think about how I might have taken that photo. Try to make (an educated? ) guess as to what flashes I had and where. I'm not expecting you to guess the power settings or anything, but just where they were and if they used any modifiers (like grids, snoots, umbrellas, etc)
If you dare, write it down in a reply then check out the setup shot, found here, for the answer.

Some crazy reflection/refraction on his glasses there. Looks pretty odd.
glasses are meant to bend light, to the back of an eye. most cases, maybe 2", 4cm. you are seeing (rather the camera saw) light being bentan d not stopped.liquidat0r wrote:

ok mcminty - there's light low left, and another light source directly right (as you look). the light is better diffused from the left. the light on the right is blowing out or leaving a hotspot on his left cheek, so it's more direct.
i see umbrellas
well yeah
